You will lose the 25% single person discount on your council tax bill.

we are both activly seeking work and will continue to do so .. it will be easier now as we can share the child care etc.
I guessed i may be able to claim JSA but how about my rent and council tax benefit, as he is not entitled to benefit im wondering if the council will still pay these?

I think (but don't quote me!!) that your LHA will still be assessed on the household income, so you should be OK there until he or you find a job.
    Good luck :O)

Hi Kateholmes - on what grounds is your boyfriend in the country? Is he on a visa? Does he have 'not entitled to state funds' stamped in his passport?

If he does - it's not a problem to you - as you are entitled to benefits. As said above, you will lose your lone adult discount on council tax as you have another adult living in the house. All means tested benefits will still be based on your household income - combination of yours and your boyfriends, although no consideration will be given with regards to the costs of an extra adult living in the household (if he has no recourse to public funds).

If you take into account something like child tax credits - you will not receive any monies for your bf, but as it is based on entire household income, there really shouldn't be any change in that for you.

You would lose the 'single parent' payments, but if you are prepared to look for work with childcare being easier, then you would claim JSA and hopefully find work sooner as you would have more flexibility.

As for HB - again, this is means tested - so would take into account your total household income, but not give any allowances for your boyfriend.

Hope this helps a bit - I'm sure someone with more detailed info will be along :) Good luck with the job hunting!
