I'm trying to find out his level of savings to know whether it will affect your benefits; I'm not just being nosy!

Presumably you receive Income Support on the grounds of being a lone parent? This will cease unless you satisfy another condition of entitlement.

You may claim JSA if you are available for work but will not receive a couple rate

A partner of a claimant doesnt have to satisfy the habitual residence test for benefits but, as has been said, if your qualifying condition was being a lone parent then your entitlement to IS will cease and you will need to claim JSA.
  • we are both activly seeking work and will continue to do so .. it will be easier now as we can share the child care etc.
I guessed i may be able to claim JSA but how about my rent and council tax benefit, as he is not entitled to benefit im wondering if the council will still pay these?
