Are there any trees near the sewer route ...This is just the time of year that roots will grow enough to create a total blockage.

Some drains have a cap that you can remove to get the crud to flow away, I'd open up your drain and the neighbours and get a bucket to remove what is in your drain and pour it into the neighbours drain then see what you can do.

Do you throw kitchen towels/tampons into the toilet or do your washing up with luke warm water or has there been any building work going on at your house?

Please excuse me being very stupid. I understand about the kitchen towels/tampson, but why shouldn't you wash up with luke warm water? Thanks!

It allows fats in the water to solidify along the drain. Hot will send it much further into larger drains.

the plug marked "rodding eye", can be removed to allow all the water to escape.

they can be hard to remove, so peeps often just smash them to bits with an iron bar.
then rod the trap to clear any remaining debris etc.
    Get some gorm.
