Outside Drain full to the brim - Help!

Noticed a problem this morning uopn flushing the toilet, the tissue disappeared but water didn't drain away properly. Flushed it again and it filled to the brim. We have three drain covers on or near our property, the one in the back garden is clear, one just outside the front of the house is clear but one in our front driveway, right near the house is full to the brim!

Contemplated calling Dynorod, but Dh rang our Insurance company and we're covered. This was at 10am and we were told someone from their contractors would be round within 4 hours. Just rang them again and they can't get anyone round until tomorrow as there's worse emergencies that have been prioritised. Surely if it's full to the brim and leaks out, it's a health hazard??

Not sure whether to forget the claim and just ring Dynorod or what? Would claiming under our house insurance affect the premium anyway?

In the meantime I'm presuming we can't use toilets or even have a shower or anything for fear it will overflow? With two young children, I'm not impressed with the insurance company so far. :(

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

It's possible the blockage is in the public sewer. Ring your water supplier

Sorry I misread your post. A set of drain rods would be cheapest.

If it's that big an emergency that you need to clear it today, then go and buy some drain rods - they're £15-£20. It's a huge waste of money to get dynorod to clear anyway, it'll probably only take about 10 minutes to clear it yourself.

Trouble is it's really tightly compacted, loads of tissues and worse.

It mustve been there some time although we only had a problem with flushing the bathroom loo this morning. Seems weird both other drains are clear though.

The other drains might be surface water ones and not foul......

Are there any other drain covers or rodding points AFTER the drain that's full ?

If these are clear, the blockage must be between your trouble drain and these, so take the cover off the drain that comes after, and poke rodding poles toward the troublesome one.

Either that or poke around in the troublesome one and see if you can disturb the packed tissue to clear its outlet, and let the liquids start flowing again; then see if the tissue will flow away in stages. Maybe a sharp, long knife attached to the end of a broom handle to rip the tissue up into smaller shreds and make it flow away easier?
