  • Thanks for the replies :)

My kitchen cupboards are quite organised already as I just did them last week but good idea about ironing and tidying up clothing - my wardrobe could do with a good organising and I do quite enjoy ironing but never get round to doing it :D

Thanks Exlibris and FairyPrincess K :D

this isnt really OS - but more to do with pain management. I broke my coccyx (tail bone) and found one item that really helped. a swim ring! to sit on. I took one everywhere! Didnt care about the strange looks I got! it really did help with sitting comfortably!
  • Thanks for your reply Meritaten, thats a really good idea! I had been trying to think of ways to make sitting down more comfy but never though of that :) Think I will definitely be investing in one :D

  • Hiya,

I know there are alot of threads with recipes/saving money cooking, but I really wanted somewhere altogether to get some ideas on batch cooking.

Me and OH work full time and spend far too much on food so i really wanted to give batch cooking a go.

I also wondered if it's possible to freeze fresh veg such as- brocolli, carrots, mushrooms, corgettes and even potatoes? There is only two of us to unless i constantly stock up on fresh veg instead of buying a lot at once it just goes to waste.

The only things i can think to batch cook are:

    Bolognaise
    Chilli con carne
    Curry
    Soups

Can you do this with chicken and sausages as well? (i get a bit worried about food poisoning and freezing/defrosting meat!)

I also cheat and use pre-made sauces so if anyone has any simple recipes for the above i would be grateful :)

    Thank you for any suggestions!
  • We are doing batches at the moment and we are doing lasagne, beef stew, cottage pie, lamb stew in addition to the things you mentioned. The meat would be fine providing it is fully defrosted before you reheat it. We freeze chicken breasts then take them out on the morning to use when we get in from work. Freezing veg is fine too
  • Oh and also moussaka
  • Thank you!

Oh yes, forgot about Lasagne and cottage pie. I was thinking all the meals i can think of are just things with mince so wanted some more variety!

I will add the others you mentioned to my list thank you. Never tried Moussaka but i will look up a recipe and give it a go!
  • Yes you can do it with chicken.

I joint a chicken into portions add marinades and freeze. take out the night before I want to use and defrost in the fridge overnight.

Sometimes I just brown the mince and then freeze in portions. (There is always a spag bol sauce lurking in my freezer:rotfl:)
    I'm not that way reclined

Jewelry? Seriously? Sheldon you are the most shallow, self-centered person I have ever met. Do you really think that another transparently-manipu... OH, IT'S A TIARA! A tiara; I have a tiara! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me! Put it on me!
  • Carrots and potatoes do not need to be eaten up fast - they should store for ages. Esp potatoes.

Courgettes - will turn to much if frozen so unless it's in a meal, don't freeze.

If you want to freeze brocolli - Blanche it first.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.
