I freeze HM pasta sauce, vegetable broth, mashed potatoes, mashed swede, roasted rhubarb, veggie cottage pie, veggie lasagne (this never tastes the same second time round) and stew.
All of these I either defrost the night before on the counter top if its something that will be boiled like soup or in the micro on 50% power for 20 mins. If its something with cheese or mash on top them I finish it in the oven.
  • Yup I agree with everyone about what you can freeze and re-heat!

If you want to take it one step further have a look at the stuff that Deborah Taylor-Hough does (just google her name). She is from the "cook for a day-eat for a month" brigade.

Just a warning though she is American and some of her recipes are a bit over the top but the basic ideas are good.;)

    Have fun!

Personnally i agree with your OH once the food has been frozen then cooked and then refrozen it does taste differently what i tend to do is on the days i know i am working late the night before i will begin cooking for the following day then that limits the amount of time the food will take to cook the next day, also if its something simple or its justs needs to go in the oven then your OH can out it on so by time you get in from work its cooked!
  • hi, what tend to do is do a massive cook up on sunday after buying all meat on sat
i.e if bought mince, will cook shephards pie, lasagne and do bolgonese so i don't get bored of eating same meals in week. it takes a while but id def worth it.
I have hungry twin boys and work till 7pm therfore it is quick to reheat wholesome food for them.

Once you get used to it you will be able to enjoy your evenings more.:j

    Person living on his own...

Don't want the same meal 3 nights in a row, but want to be able to cook more.

So looking for stuff I can maybe freeze in batches.

Considering I been living on my own for a year, i have hundreds of plastic chinese take away box things, so thinking I could use them to put in the freezer...

So, whats a good thing to batch cook? I can cook, but the only thing I can cook is toad in the hole (from scratch). Anything else I have a go at, but does not always work as it should.

Anyone fancy training me? Willing to give this a go this weekend.

I have, a microwave, 1 frying pan, 3 saucepans.....erm, thats about it...oh and a couple of baking trays. So please bear that in mind! I dont have blenders or other posh stuff :p
