Hi,
I'll be getting my first car next month (yay!) but the cheapest insurance quote I've had works out to be £108.00 a month!! Does anyone know about any specialist young driver insurers or am I going to be stuck with this?
Thanks.

How old are you? How long have you had your licence?

Things that might make it cheaper; put someone more experienced as a named driver. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Change locations, mine is cheaper parked on a road than on a driveway.0 -
Assuming your a teenage bloke that sounds cheap.0

Not sure what your position is. If you have trusting parents or a trusting other expereinced driver as a friend , Direct Line do offer a Named Driver NCD scheme.
Basically you can be a named driver on another policy and still build up a no claims bonus:-

Not ideal but it might be an option. You could maybe slipt the cost of the insurance between you.
Just don't hit anything!0 -
Buy a classic car and get classic car insurance
I'm only half joking, actually, you get some amazing prices. More seriously, why not post all the details so people can see if you're getting a good deal?

Tesco and Admiral tend to be cheaper for young drivers.
My first insurance as a 19 year old male with 1 and a half years driving experience was over a grand so your price doesn't seem too bad actually.0 -
As a new driver, but not a teenager (I am over 25) I have had a lot of quotes well over a thousand for comprehensive, and over £700 for 3PFT. Putting a more experienced driver on the insurance as a named driver makes a difference too. (But as above, don't put them down as the main driver, that's illegal!) I finally went with Adrian Flux who were able to give me a price of £475 3PFT. Paid today, getting car this week! Yay!
Also, I found out that elephant.co.uk do a 10 month policy, which works out cheaper overall but not per month, and they give you a full year's NCB at the end of it. Might work out for you?
A company called 'Call Connect' was a bit of a pain in the @$$ to use and put me through to lots of brokers who couldn't come close to the other quotes I had had, but did eventually put me through to Adrian Flux who got me that price. I would never have found them by using online comparison sites, as their original quote was quite high, but they were very keen to beat the price of £600ish for comprehensive I had had from elephant, and a manager actually came over to the sales lady with that deal, as I had said I was willing to consider both comp and 3pft.
Worth doing the boring phoning around is what I found - took me a few days but worth it in the end . Good luck!Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
Thanks v. much for your help... I passed my test this March (first time!) and I'm a 21 y/o female... pink writing in sig
I haven't actually tried Adrian Flux, my best quote was with Hastings Direct. And putting a more experienced driver on isn't helping as the only person I can use is my Mum and she's had a fault and non-fault claim in last 2 years.
P.S. I know all about fronting and wouldn't dream of doing it... I'm actually an insurance broker so I'm well aware of how naughty it is! Shame my company only does over 25s insurance...October Grocery Challenge - £67.18/£135

Thats a half decent quote! I had a quote for my son on a 1.1 engine car that was £2900 as the cheapest :eek:Mortgage, we're getting there with the end in sight £6587 07/23, otherwise free of the debt thanks to MSE help!0
