I have to admit, I have found myself in Tesco more often than I would like in the last few months.

I've visited Tesco 3 times so far this week, and I'm supposed to be boycotting them. A friend of mine gave me some icecream for dessert when I was round there over the weekend and it was that good that I wanted more. Turned out it was a combination of Haagen Dazs Belgian Chocolate and something-or-other Leche, both of which are on offer at Tesco for £2 a piece for the big tubs. Normally they're nearly £4 so I just couldn't resist :(.

And today I had a major disaster with some engine oil and a pair of canvas shoes at 6am this morning and urgently needed to replace them before I set off. The 24hr Asda didn't have any (unusually) so it was back to the Tesco again who had exactly what I wanted. Oh and I bought another tub of Haagen Dazs too :rotfl::rotfl: :D. My boycotting is going well. :(

I cant believe how we as a country allow ourselves to get dominated by these companies???

I can. It's simply lack of time and convenience. I'm not actually short of time myself and could actually use the independent's but the truth is that I simply can't be arsed. I don't want to go to umpteen different places to get all the stuff I need, I want it all under one roof and that's what the supermarkets provide.

and yet, the thing is in Europe, when your wander home from the metro takes you past a butcher, a baker a candlestick maker and a greengrocers it is no less convenient and even more so, the shops begin to anticipate and cater more precisely to your need. Of course, its longer hours for the workers...a one man shop needs to catch commuters in the morning, and on the way home, and provide through the day...on the other hand, their kids can play in a back room and they can often work below their own apartment.

Honestly....I agree with you about the convenience for where we now are in UK.especially with our more....cosmopolitan (or microwave dependant)at home eating patterns ..but its not the only way for convenience.
  • Tesco villages might not be such a bad idea, Cadbury/Bournville didn't do a bad job years ago, although granted the world has changed a lot since then!

Seeing as there is a little giant corporate conglomerate bashing going on Lovely jubbly!), I thought it was interesting looking at how the supermarkets are making significant profits in their condoning of the occupation of palestine:

Consumerism and ethics just doesn't mix I'm afraid and it doesn't end with the pro Israelis. The plastic looking fruit and veg is bland and the intensive systems of farming and varieties used have reduced vitamin and mineral contents to a fraction of what they were 50 years ago. I'd have to seriously question the moral fibre of anyone who buys supermarket meat either....or maybe they don't realise that the animals are walking vets pharmacies?

Welcome to Tescoville, leave your conscience at the door. Don't worry about where your products come from and move quickly along to your next shopping experience. Buy your luxury lifestyle here ....because your worth it! ;)

I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with the company Monsanto? or the Codex Alimentarius legislation that came into effect in 2009? if not then I'd suggest a quick google because it's coming to a table near you  :D. No on seconds thoughts don't google it you'd never believe it :)
