Cooke & Lewis Kitchen - Do I or Don't I?

Hi,

My quote with 20% off for the Cooke & Lewis high gloss white kitchen is valid until Thursday so need to make up my mind by then. I'm very pleased with the price and was impressed with the B&Q designer. I just have nagging doubts about the quality....

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

    My honest opinion....NO!

Pay a little more and you can get something of a much higher quality...

It's not the quality that worries me as much (assuming you're getting Cooke & Lewis carcasses - and not the cheaper It ones) ... it's whether or not you'll get all the bits you need all in one go!

Get a quote from Howdens - they do high-gloss and are likely to be much cheaper. They'll also give you the details of fitters in your area. I'm having a kitchen fitted as we speak and have been delighted with the quality of the fitter's work.

I've just had a black gloss Howdens kitchen fitted and it's very nice.

I would not be pushed by them - trust me, offers don't expire. However, I too would shop around.

Try some local kitchen companies - i'm not a fan of Howdens personally.

If it is the one you like the most out of the others you have seen then go for it. Don't be pushed into it due to the 20% discount as expect there will be another form of discount making the price almost the same.

    i would recomend some bits frm their range, but not an entire kitchen as it is way over priced compared to somehwere like ikea. i ripped a few bits off for my kitchen project after xmas;

I bought IT doors, and fitted a few chocie cooke and lewis componets (wine rack front on the front of a modified IT rack, Cooke and lewis plished chrome long handles) and made the rest from sale itmes in IT range and from Jewsons kitchen areas. All in gloss white.

i reused old carcases where i could, and made my own to suit the redesigned kithcen layout. its only melmime so its dead easy.

    bought;

about 10 IT gloss white door fronts (had these cut to size exactly then trimmed the edges up with gloss tape stuff.

two packs of cornice gloss wnhote from jewsons in the sale.

integrated fridge freezer door from jewsons ( ii cut to size)

a larder unit from b and q IT £60, cut and fitted to size.

a integrated miele fridge freezer from ebay (£35! still sell for £600 same model)

1 pack of gloss white skirting board cut to size

6 mtrs oak block worktop for b and Q (got a guy to fit it for £80!)

a samsung stainless electic oven and stianless gas hob, plus stainless extractor. (375 all in in B and Q 25% day after xmas with an extra 10% off too)

    2 new sinks

a awsome tap off ebay (£35)

    £65 electrician fittings

gettin full glass splashbacks made at a glaziers for entire kitchen walls. painted on reverse with tile paint, and glued in place with mirror adhesive. £90

    5 x metal switches (ebay) £45

total project cost ; £1000 approx. total project time; 2 months!

takes ages doing ti this way, but ive got a kitchen that should ave cost 5 - 6K fitted perfectly and sdesigned to suit my space. once the glass is up i will post pics in a new thread.

sorry to go on but im well proud

    cheers

I got my units, kickboard, pelmet and cornice from Howdens, then got the doors from B&Q. I only got about 20 doors but they were ordered in January, and I am currently in the house today waiting for my 5th replacement door.

B&Q quality control and customer service is absolute nonsense. If you are one of the minority that gets everything on their first delivery, well done you. If however you have to chase missing or broke bits, heaven help you.

If I had known this would happen, I would have got the delivery man back in and have him pick it all back up and got somewhere else!

Having said all that, my bro in law is a fitter for Kitchens International and he is impressed with the quality (but remember, I did only get doors...)

    Hi suisidevw,

the worktop was £160 all in for two packs i think (we bought three just in case but took on back afterwards). it was the oak wood block mix laminate from B and Q.

our fitter was an absolute legend. he fitted all three sides (its a U shape) and a bushboard end (where the worktop runs verticlaly down to the floor). this included cutting the holes for two round sinks, a tap hole, a gas hob, and two mitred cuts as well as all the finishing. he charged us £80 all in, came sunday morning, and was done by 5 sunday afternoon.

we had all the glue ready, edging tape and filler already so it was all there ready. well pleased.
