What ratio of coconut oil to shea butter do you use for this combination, please?

I ordered some shea butter from ebay, and it arrived today. So far it's rather soothing on the nasty sunburn I got on Sunday. It feels slightly "bitty" to start when I put it on my skin, but the bits do fade away. The smell reminds me of bonfires (does it remind anyone else of that?).

yes, bonfires, petrol, wet earth, ashtrays....

having said that because it's 'natural' I kind of don't mind.

Just thought I'd report- I used Shea butter as a pre shampoo treatment this morning and it was FAB! I warmed a small amount (10p piece size) in my hands then applied it to the ends of my hair. Left it for 5 mins and shampooed out. At first I thought my hair felt no different but when my hair was dry it was really soft and shiney. I'm never going back to expensive conditioners!

Several people have mentioned using it on their hair, I know it's used on afro hair, but does it work for european/caucasian hair as well?

I'm caucasian with blonde/brown hair (not green like my avatar :D). My hair is usually quite oily and poker straight (dry at the ends) and it was fine for me, but I had to wash it out well.

I have caucasian hair, it is quite dry and frizz prone though. I use it as a prepoo and if my ends are a bit frazzled as a leave in (a tiny bit)

Just got my first lot of shea butter from ebay. Whisked about 4tbsp melted shea butter and 1tbsp coconut oil for about 20 mins and got a lovely soft body butter. The smell is pretty strong still through, even though I've added about 8-10 drops lavender oil. DH says I smell like a plastic bag! Can anyone recommend a good scent to mix it with - I'd like to make it smell good enough to eat!

Well it's a good alternative to saying you have a head ache when you want to be left alone.. :D
I had to get rid of my shea butter, or else my OH would be the one getting head aches a bit too often.... ;)

I use shea butter for my hair as a pre-treatment, a tiny bit on the ends after its been washed for a bit of shine. i do have very dry hair. a spoonful in the bath , have too be careful as bath can become slipery. i make my own lip balms so had some shea too that. also use M&P soap base so add some too that and last of all as a moisturiser for my skin i used to have terrible dry skin. i have some essential oils to add too it aswell to add some scent too it.
