This might sound really odd, but I have dry skin, and have to moisturise all the time. Have tried all kinds of things, cheap, posh, etc. The problem with pure shea is that you have to be patient, and melt it in your hand before applying.

For a fast and unscented skin moisturiser, I recommend a sunflower and castor oil mix. It might sound really odd, but works perfectly after a shower, when your skin is loaded with water.

If your grandmother is dubious, she could try it on her arm or hand after a shower.

    UH OH!!!

I was just about to order some for my Granma. She has terrible problems with very dry skin and I thought shea butter would be perfect for her but if it is a bit stinky thats going to be a problem as shes very, very particular and doesn't like anything that, in her words..."smells like food", she only likes toiletries that smell like flowers. I did find one on this site thats fragranced with lavender and frankincese...

    Has anyone tried this one?

On the flip side I once had a tub of BS Cocoa Butter and my then 7 year old daughter used to sneak into my room just to smell it - she called it 'Cake Cream' saying it smelt like chocolate cake.

I would have bought the same, if I had known about the smell. But it's easy to add the essential oil anyway if you want.
Looks like an ideal present for your nan!

    PS
BS butters are not pure cocoa/shea butters, but they are body butters that contain these butters, plus a lot of chemicals, including perfumes.

Mine doesn't seem to smell of anything much. It's white in colour and organic.

My favourite deodorant was made by Lush and has been discontinued. It was made from shea butter with essential oils in and I absolutely adored it. My stash has nearly all gone so I am really pleased to have stumbled on this thread thanks. I intend getting some and will have a go at making my own. If nothing else, I will have a great moisturiser and decent natural hair product. Cheers!

Sounds like a good idea. Is it just shea and eoils in the lush deodorant?

Sounds lovely! Pity they don't make it any more, I would have given it a go.

    Hi All,

The shea butter I ordered from eBay arrived this morning. It looks a bit weird. Like small lumps of fresh yeast in a bag, is this right?

If that's ok, should I leave it in small lumps or squish it together in a tub of some kind?

    Thanks in advance,

    PGxx

    Ok I bought some!
I'm not sure if someone on this thread suggested it or I read on the net somewhere but it said to put a teaspoon in your bath so I did. It was lovely and soothing for my skin.....but how on earth do you clean the bath once the water has drained out? Its like cold wax now on the plastic and a nightmare to scrub off!!
I have realised I will never play the Dane! :(

Where are my medals? Everyone else on here has medals!! :p

Sounds like the effects you can get if you use a bath oil or bath ball. I'd recommend a creme bleach, a sponge and plenty of elbow grease! Check your bath is not enamel as bleach and enamel do not go.

Just got shea butter (and also cocoa butter mixed to sweet almond oil).

I was using the Body Shop shea butter and was very happy with it, until I realised that it contains silicone! YUK!

I got my delivery today, and both products are lovely except.... the smell! OMG!
It will be good to use to get rid of my OH when I want to watch telly on my own, with the whole sofa for myself! :)

Does anyone know versions with something that make it smell nice without any nasties in it?

    Hi

The shea butter I bought from Shea Butter Cottage smells slightly nutty. What does yours smell like?

I usually add Lavender essential oil for a relaxing just before bed body butter. Might need some almond/grape seed/sunflower oil if it's a bit thick.
