I bought mine from this ebay seller lizjoy79 I paid £12.50 for a kilo of organic shea butter. They were very quick with delivery, and I was happy with the product when it arrived. But its my first purchase so I would also like to know if there are other places to by this. I know bodyshop sell it but its £12.50 for 200ml. L'Occitane do organic shea butter for £24.00 for 150ml *gasp*0

Yes I had heard this, but mine was unscented - I think it was more refined.0 -

I'm a recent shea butter convert. My family are originially from Ghana where shea butter is abundant so on a recent trip I was able to get about a year's supply for pennies, whereas bodyshop sells it for £12 for about 200ml . I use it everyday on my body and face and think it's really improved the fine lines on my face (a result of my eczema, rather than ageing). I also use it on my hair as a leave in conditioner as it really softens afro hair. The nutty smell does take to get used to but fades after about 5 mins. If you really don't like the smell, you can warm it slightly in the microwave and leave it to cool so the scent evaporates. However, you shouldn't heat it up for too long as it will destroy the nutrients.
I've also found interesting links on whipping shea butter so it is the same consistency as the type sold in the bodyshop and makes it last longer and easier to spread:

Thank you. I bet yours was the really pure unrefined type. I hear thats the best. I didn't know about overheating. I have melted some with coconut oil (so it will spread more easily) I hope that I didn't over heat it. I will try using an electric whisk next time.0 -
I got a small tub of pure, unrefined shea butter in the afor-caribbean hair products shop news where I live in West London this weekend, just to try. I am using it in my dry toes and cuticles and hands and it is fantastic!. I have also put it on my face at night and I must say , I am impressed- I have very dry skin and I woke up with healthy- looking, glowing skin (without greasy feel).
Forget the Bodyshop (too scented for my taste) and forget L-Occitanne (way too expensive)- unrefined is great- way up there with coconut oil for me... I knwo this will be a staple in my beauty regime....0 -
I have ordered both shea and cocoa butter and rosehip oil from Akoma. I shall let you know how I get on.0

I've been using Shea butter for a while as a moisturiser (face and body) for me and also on my dd eczma, which it has cleared up beautifully. Can't remember off hand where I got mine from, but I'll need some more soon!0

That's really interesting. Shea butter does contain some potential anti-inflammatory agents but I haven't seen anything that proves it works yet.
I wrote about it a while back but I should probably update my research.
