I fear it will take me 400 hours  14 lots listed and finally checked (I always check them once live) pc rebooted AGAIN, something is slowing it big style and I am getting ever so slightly hacked off with it.
Personally I blame the election0 -
I agree in part but this machine is about 5 years old and there is a lot of junk on here that I don't really need but it is all tied up emotionally (stupid I know!) with DH. Whilst a clean reinstall would solve a lot of the issues it is v out of date in reality I need to replace it. I am undecided on a desk top or a laptop though, I like a 'proper' keyboard and mouse but can see the advantages of a laptop. Coupled with the fact that I seemed to have been Miss Scattercash recently I am trying to put off unnecessary expense at this point.Official Mascot and Chief Cheerleader for the 'Mortgage Free in Three' Gang0

There appear to be bandwidth problems generally on internet traffic. we've been having trouble with webcasts and voice over IP telephony all day.
Personally I blame the election

A laptop is more energy efficient, and more flexible. I use mine on a stand, and have a 'proper' keyboard and mouse attached to it
I suggest the first thing you do is get yourself an external hard drive (or ipod!) and transfer all the data that you want to keep over to it. You'll need it anyway if you get a new laptop. That way you can do a clean install which will resolve things, and then put all the crap back, so keeping the stuff that you have an emotional attachment to, but taking some of the strain off the poor old PC. It's not silly to feel like that, but it is silly to make your own life harder because of it. I'm sure DH wouldn't want you to (thinking of the incident with the christmas lights, you'd better be careful, as if you don't sort it out soon he might do it for you, and if you don't have a backup it might be very inconvenient!)0 -

My Personal List
[STRIKE]Monday
1. Get Ocado order
2. Stare blankly at coursework on acoustics and get nowhere fast
3. WM/TD/Airer on balcony/Put Away/Chase DD to put hers away/Return next door's cat from balcony.
4. Ignore everything else as trying to do coursework, but very little making sense.
5. Continue coursework stress through wee small hours to OMG What Time Do You Call This Hours with limited success. 30% complete and not entirely certain I have done it right. Bit on reverberation and auditorium design appears to be OK though. The actual tone generation and analysis looks totally wrong.
6. Ignore next door's cat yelling to come in balcony door.
[/STRIKE]
Tuesday
[STRIKE]1. Have First Driving Lesson in 8 years
2. Realise that 8 years is a long time in car manufacture - the brand new Ford Focus with 80 miles on the clock, in the possession of the instructor for 15 minutes by the time he got to me, was so very different from anything I have ever driven before. There's so much power in it!
3. Realise that all the confidence I had been building up last time I took driving lessons has all disappeared and I have become a nervous, completely uncoordinated learner! How did that happen?
4. WM/Airer/Put Away/Return next door's cat from balcony.
5. DW
6. Have DD announce she doesn't want to go to Brownies any more. Fair enough, one job less. Return next door's cat.
7. Resume coursework, armed with A3 pad and marker pens. Strangely, I think it is beginning to form a structure. Declutter 3rd coffee.
8. Declutter more coffee every hour
9. Have caffeine induced alteration of consciousness which send essay part of answer off onto discussion of concept of consonance and dissonance in music with particular reference to E7#9 in Purple Rain, Robert Plant vs Jimmy Page F# Phrygian in Immigrant Song and dramatic effect of dissonant chords in Pink Floyd. How I knew about these examples, I have no idea.
[/STRIKE]
Wednesday
1[STRIKE]. Submit coursework.
2. Resubmit 25 minutes later when I realise that I attached the wrong mp3 file.
3. WM/Airer x 3
4. Return next door's cat.
5. Sleep for couple of hours.
6. Coffee.
7. Return next door's cat.
8. Driving instructor had last minute cancellation - did I want lesson free?. Still rubbish but strangely much better coming back on 40mph road with lots of roundabouts than I did on little side roads.
9. Breakfast at 4pm.
10. Retrieve next door's cat from under bed. Return to sender.
11. Put cup in kitchen.
12. Retrieve next door's cat from behind sofa. Return to sender.
13. Allow DD to go to friend's for tea.
14. SOADFA
15. DD back. Eat ice cream from van. Chase DD to put washing away.
16. Collapse in heap hoping rest of week is less tiring.
17. Realise coffee consumption probably means I won't sleep more than about an hour here and there until Saturday.[/STRIKE]
Question: Wouldn't breeding shoes become rather painful?I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
jojo - why does next door's cat like it so much round at your house?
oh... and if you can't sleep.... I have LOTS of work that needs doing...0 -
The perfect way to spend my 2000th post!
'jojo - why does next door's cat like it so much round at your house?'
It'll be the word MUG printed on my forehead, invisible to all but animals.
At least, that's the only thing I can think of.
I am a bit baffled by the way animals seem to find me irresistible. Not that I usually complain, I've found them easier to deal with than people all my life. It's dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, wild animals, the lot. Even horses seem to like me (or want to do as I please rather than the other way round)!
Thinking about it, that concurs with the driving lesson nerves - I wasn't nervous at all on horseback on a narrow road with cars coming past, but feel more tense in the car somehow.
If I had a house with a garden, I would be sorely tempted to have a big pond, nestboxes, insect homes, hedgehog kennels, everything. As it is, I am left with 3 unruly mogs of my own and until recently, a few Hawkmoth pupae overwintering on the balcony. Plus (judging by the cats' reaction) a spider living round the back of the scratching post
I am permanently fighting against the moulting fur onslaught!I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
jojo - if you're prepared to put your life in your hand riding an animal with a brain the size of a walnut along narrow roads with cars going past, then controlling a car yourself should be a doddle... the car is pretty much guaranteed to do what you tell it to
and you don't need to be any more worried about the other cars that you would be if you were on a horse. All the other drivers will be at best muppets and at worst psychopaths with a death wish... but that's no change, you're already used to them.
I was taught to drive my a great instructor who said that it was very important to remember that most of the rest of the drivers on the road were idiots and to assume that they would do something stupid. I've found it very useful advice, even now I've been driving long enough that I'm probably now one of the offendors!0
