They can, but you mean dealer sales can't?Just check these boards! A few hours dilligence can save literally thousands.

Bloke got out and walked away leaving his wife and kids behind!!!!! Police came and said it was a civil matter - car written off. lost 1500 quid on that one.
He should have sued him for the car and wall damage (the guy's insurance would have paid for the wall, though. He was insured to drive another's car - right? Right?) I know of an instance where a guy took his car into a garage for some mod work, they test drove it afterwards and wrecked it. He claimed on their insurance and received thousands less than it was worth, plus they never even factored in the massive bill he'd just paid. Doesn't mean you should never take your car to a garage though!plane_boy2000 wrote: »Furthe up the market people dont want to pay thousands on a private sale with no warranty / comeback / finance etc
You're wrong there. You'll always get way more on a private sale than a trade-in or garage sale if you advertise properly.
In terms of selling, in most cases a warranty is a complete waste of paper. If you're not happy checking the car out yourself get a guaranteed assessment by a pro. In the worst case event the money you save on markup will pay for some pretty hefty repairs.plane_boy2000 wrote: »Might be worth an add, but these things are not always as straight forward as they appear.
Always have been for me. I've never own amazing cars but I reckon I've saved £20K on buying and selling privately. With my last car I happened to see one at a garage. I went to check it out just to see what was what, as they're pretty rare, and it had a couple of issues and was on sale for £9K. I spent a few weeks looking around and bought the same model and year privately (only 4K more miles) - £6,350. No issues, showroom condition. Fault repair costs in 18 months - £0.0 -
I sold mine to them in September as I wanted to sell quickly. They offered me £200 above the Parkers reccomended trade in value for my 07 plate Seat Leon. When I went along then knocked £150 off for some paintwork issues but that was it. I even got to keep the tax.
I can't really complain to be honest. They sell their cars on at Carcraft for inflated prices so they only want certain cars. Seller beware I would say but it works for some.0 -
Honest John suggests Sure Sell as a good way to sell older cars.

I have never used them so can't really comment.0 -
If you're not happy with the price they offer when they see the car then you don't have to sell it to them. If you don't want to pay for adverts and want a quick sale I would try them first. You can always drive away," The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
