Cancelling Newnet before connection

I signed up for Netnet monthly broadband on Monday of last week, they have said they will connect me some time on Thursday of next week. I'm having second thoughts and am wondering if I could get a refund of the 43 pounds (30 connection charge and first month's charge) I've already paid as they haven't connected me yet. Any ideas if there should be a cooling off period?
Thanks

The main determinant will be the Terms & Conditions of the service you signed up to.
As they have given you a date for connection - ie when the BT Openreach engineer is scheduled to perform the work - I would imagine they are already committed to paying BT the c£40 charge they incur and hence it's likely that "No refunds will be offered in the event of cancelled service" is not just fair but completely non-profiteering on their part.
Otherwise if you are on a service with them such as "Home Lite" (which is where I got the "No refunds will be offered in the event of cancelled service" from) it does say 1 month notice of termination required, so it MAY be that you should get a connection for your money, while you give immediate notice to leave in 1 months time, and you quickly find another ISP to migrate to during that month that you've already paid for.
But I also see SOME of their services are "Some services are subject to a minimum term of 12/24/36 months" so as I say what T&C's did you sign up to ???
If I was in your shoes I would speak to them:
a) You may be able to get reassurance from them on the topic that's making you uneasy about your current commitment
b) They should be able to tell you what you HAVE committed to
c) It's possible if you are SURE you don't want their service (and it doesn't have a 12/24/36month commitment, but just 30 days notice) that they can simply cancel the activation next Thursday, but of course keep your money.
d) Otherwise let it go ahead, but give them that 1m notice, and enjoy the service you've signed/paid for, but migrate ASAP to where you really want to be - next time reading up on the contract commitment/cooling-off/etc before signing on that dotted line and handing over the dosh.

Thanks for the info MKD, it's just the monthly home lite package that I've signed up for. I'm in a rental house temporarily I so was looking for a short term solution. Yesterday when I bought a new mobile I was given a free O2 dongle and am using that with no problems, hence wanting to cancel Newnet.0

I am relatively confident that by law you have the right to a refund of any form of connection charge paid up front and the right to cancel your order up until activation, or at least by 4pm the day before activation. Give them a ring and find out.0

When signing up for the Home Lite Service you accept
" No refunds will be offered in the event of cancelled service. "0
