Apple Mobile Device?

I was just looking at the task manager on my laptop, and I noticed a program running called "Apple Mobile Device". Does anyone know what this is? I don't have an iphone. I do use itunes - is it something that will have been automatically downloaded? I'm getting a little worried, because someone I live with has an iphone. Could they have connected to my laptop in some way?

Taking a total stab in the dark on this one (been i own no apple products), i believe it is the service used for connecting your mobile device (IPod, ITouch, IPhone) to our computer so it can interact with programs like ITunes. I think a cable is needed to connect but ill leave for others in the know to post.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -
It's downloaded automatically as part of iTunes. You don't need it running so I kill it from starting using Spybot or CCleaner. Trouble is, every time Steve (Number 6) Job sends out a iTunes update, it loads again, so you have to kill it again.0

You need that to connect to itunes, if you stop it, it will need restarting or your iphone wont show up in itunes.
To restart you need to go into mycomputer and choose manage files i believe, and find it there and restart it.0 -

If you read the OP's post, they DON'T have an iPhone. It's not needed for an iPod and doesn't have to be hogging resource.0
