i have flat feet and have just bought a pair of Birkenstocks....
the pain i have had in my legs and feet is terrible...ive gone back to trainers with orthotics....might try a pair of fitflops at home and return if they dont seem so good....0 -
I have all the same problems with shoes, I am limited to wearing trainers or cat boots!
If I wear any other shoe without my support im in pain, but I honestly wear my fit flops all the time. I wore them everyday on holiday in Temerife at the start of this year, the weather wasnt the greatest while we were there so we done a lot of walking!
I wear them to work and keep them on while im at home, as you may know, even walking around barefoot starts hurting your feet and knees.
I had points on my boots advantage card the first time I bought a pair so used my points to buy them, now I would quite happily pay for some more pairs.
My dad has bought a pair of fit flops now too, he doesnt have flat feet but he wears his on holiday all the time when walking around also, the only thing he had to get used to was the toe posts
Thanks
Yes barefoot is bad!!!
I normally wear Ecco shoes and even then only the one sort at £135 a go, just seen then at £125 here though, or trainers

I have flat feet & tendon/ankle issues.
I have to say, I find Birkenstocks are the only shoes I can comfortably wear for any length of time now.
I found initialy it took anything up to a week or two to get used to them. I experienced 'shin splints' & the like, but your feet & legs are having to adjust to being put in to the correct position that they should naturaly be in so a little discomfort is to be expected.
I would suggest sticking with it. Build up the amount of time that you wear them for over a couple of weeks & one day you won't even notice you're wearing them!
It's worth it & your feet, ankles, legs & even back will thank you for it in the long run!:D0 -

I have just been diagnosed with flat feet and have an appt with Orthotic Services at the hospital re insoles. Only found out when I had reflexology and she commented on how flat my feet were, didn't realise the pain I had when walking, in my feet but particularly my shins wasn't normal!!!
Anyhow, I'm wondering what these orthotic insoles will do, will they be a miracle cure and will it allow me to wear heels, as would love to be able to wear some nice high heel shoes on a night out without having to sit down and take them off every 5 mins?0 -

thank you jennieweb for all your thoughts:A.. sorry for the late reply, i haven't had the net at home for a week or so now:eek::eek:, so am using the library's facilities from time to time... oh, it's great how you've given my the correct tools for multi-quoting and replying!!! it's wonderfully liberating!!I don't think fallen arches are the same as low arches- fallen arches require treatment, low arches do not, they are just low arches. Low arch people are fine to wear high heels,
i can wear high heels for v short periods, but tend to prefer ones with top ankle support, but haven't done so for about a year now.
fallen arch people need to rebuild the structure of their feet by wearing supportive shoes for some time which are usually flat.
do you think it's possible to get this checked out by my GP or do I go to the podiatory (sp?) dept at the hospital?
I have to say, fitflops do not have any real arch support. They are not totally flat but if they were to have arch support you'd be able to feel the arch as being firmer then the rest of the shoe, instead they are the same degree of softness all over the heel with no difference at the arch.I would be wary of firflops not giving you the correct arch support.
so, fitflops aren't going to be that benenficial for me then? Is it possible for me to develop something serious in my feet at this time in my life (i'm 40, female) when I have never had had any probs previously? It all seems rather strange when suddenly changing my footwear for the summer that my feet weren't the same was they were before.
Well, I don't know whether the chirodist actually told me technically whether the arch was fallen or low. all i remember she asked me to turn my foot outwards for her to see how arched it was and she said something like it was low, or something. as it wasn't a professional appt. i had with her, i'm sure she would of explained this in more detail for me.
Massage for your neck and posture- when sitting down rather then walking- do you have an office job it sounds like your computer and keyboard are in the wrong position- or maybe you have a stressful job as this is a classic way people hold tension- hence the massage suggestion, need them regularly though like once a week- do you have a partner?
partner's away for 6mths now so can't get any massages, i'm afraid!:(:( (he wasn't v good tho'.... he's just not got that tender touch!!!
i've just had my physio assessment today, and was told that my neck pain is likely to be caused by being in office-based jobs for most of my working life (now i don't tho') and also, lying down on my elbow when reading in bed aggravates my shoulder and neck area too. phsio person gave me some exercises to do, so hopefully i'll feel better one day.
Yoga can also help alot too as it really losens you up
i used to go a long time ago, but stopped as the yoga centre shut down but just recently, realised I needed to go again.jazzconfused wrote: »limited edition fiorella by ana sui
