Think I may have got this tip from the health & beauty board.
When dying my roots I now only use half the mixture and put the lids back on tightly until the next time. Making my hair dye half price. HTH xCherish those you have in your life because you never know when they won't be there anymore.
No matter how you feel, get up, dress up & never give up.0 -
Not sure if this is sneaky or forced, but ages ago the last hob ring on my cooker broke and ever since Ive been using a single hotplate that I bought for 15 quid, it means Im not using 3 hob rings at a time and utilise the heat from cooking pasta first to quickly cook the veg etc. I bet thats saving a few pennies!
Should get a new cooker, but the oven and grill works so....!!''A moment's thinking is an hour in words.'' -Thomas Hood0 -
Did you know that you can get replacement radiant rings from somewhere like ebay for something like a couple of quid each? That could have been cheaper than your fifteen quid hotplate. They are quite easy to fit as well. If I can figure out how to do it, I expect anyone could1

As many of you know I'm trying to stretch the pennies as far as they'll go (basically until they squeak!).
I change our toothbrushes over ever 4-5 months (I buy what's on offer in HB or B&M etc), the old ones get dipped in some boiling water and then get used instead of scouring pads etc. I use the elastic bands the postman seems to always throw away in my drive to identify them and make sure no one uses them for anything else! These are perfect for scrubbing pots (bend the head of the toothbrush back gently so you can easily get into curves of pots), they can also be used to clean the corners in a shower, taps etc.
My skin was feeling a little dry so I mixed up 2 tsps of porridge oats (crush it slightly with a spoon first) and mix it into a paste with some milk and put on to clean skin. Leave for 10 mins and rinse off and my skin felt much better.
Do you have any bars of highly perfumed white soap but don't want to use it for washing? If you're anything like me you'll have ended up with lots of these through gift sets or small travel bars of soap from hotels. I use these as stain remover bars, wet the item and use the soap on the stain then wash as normal, the stain should nnormally come out.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. A cheap and fast way of cleaning your mirrors, apart from buying the cleaning cloth. Is to wet a microfibre cloth with water only (I use Lakelands lilac micro fibre cloth which is specifically for glass polishing) and then dry it with newspaper. It's the easiest way I have found to clean mirrors with and cheap as well.No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Today I have planted 5 sunflower plants in the garden (grown from freebie seeds) near the bird food stand. This idea comes from a friend who did this last year, once the plants have stopped flowering and eventually dried out the plants will become an excellent and cheap way to feed the birds sunflower seeds. I also, think the dried out plants looks nice in the garden. No toiletries challenge, started 18/1/2010 - Putting £1 in my savings jar for every item that I use up. Pot 1 to 4 = £261. Pot 5=£23

I would like to thank the previous poster who reccomended a great way to extend the life of your hair conditioner. The tip was to decant one part conditioner to ten parts water into a spray bottle and use this as a leave in conditioner.
Last week I removed my hair conditioner from the shower to avoid being tempted to use it and have now only been using the leave in spay and WOW, the results are really good. My hair is in much better condition and is actually beginning to shine (too dry to shine before).
Def reccomend this tip. thank you, however you are0 -
I have one of those flat floor mops to wipe my laminate floor. When I wore out the original pads for it I got a fright when I saw how expensive the replacements were. Instead I decided to use old t-shirts that were well worn and weren't fit to wear. I cut out pieces slightly bigger than the pads and tied them on. Then I just need to remove them when finished cleaning the floor, wash and they are ready to use again.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I did a mixture of both seed potatoes and chitted peelings from the sack last year.
THe better potatoes came from the chitted peelings I'd just put into some spare ground.
This is probably a dumb question but what are chitted peelings??
thanks
