I hadn,t realised the price of postage stamps was increasing again in April. I,ve completely missed that and haven't been able to find any official advice on it. Can somebody please give me a link to the Royal Mail announcement on the specifics. Thanks.

Quick post just to clarify about potential price increases on postage stamps.

I haven't seen any official announcement but I did come across an Ofcom consultation: Review of the Second Class Safeguard Caps 2019. (Sorry, can't get the link to work.) I haven't read the whole thing (83 pages long  ) but a quick skim read indicates it's more than likely there will be increases for some second class post. The consultation was published on 26th July 2018 with a closing date of 4th Oct 2018 for responses.

"In light of the findings of our affordability assessment in particular, we are proposing to raise the level of the Second Class standard letter cap by 5% in real terms, which would take the upper limit of the cap from 60p currently to 65p from April 2019, thereafter increasing each year by CPI."

As Royal Mail seems to peg its prices just below the upper limit of the cap (cap is currently 60p with 2nd class stamp costing 58p) it seems reasonable to assume there will be a price increase. Ofcom plans to issue a statement "early 2019" so .... watch this space! (Some business mail costs have already increased from the beginning of the year.)
Be kind to others and to yourself too.
  • I personally wouldn't put anything containing FABRIC SOFTENER on any material that I couldn't put into in the washing machine.

Thanks WeegieWumman, I’ll stick to the real Frebrezee stuff in a spray can just in case.

Use old cheese wrapper and plastic from cereal packets to wrap sandwiches and other food (when you don't want to take your plastic packed lunch box with you).

I had been out on several missions today, and when I came in for lunch, the house felt a bit chilly. I already had my hand reach for the thermostat, when I realised the sun was already on the terrace, so I went to the kitchen to fix my lunch, and am now eating it in the sunshine, nice and warm :).

  • Since I have been consistently using my stocks from freezer and pantry my food bill has really decreased again. I scour the fridge for things that can be repurposed into a different meal and for veggies that need to be used.:)
Overprepare, then go with the flow.

I unplugged the wii. We only ever use it if dds have friends over and they get a bit bored (some friends come for about five hours at a time due to a large gap between school ending / parents finishing work).

I should do the same, only me but it`s awkward to get to plug, did remove all the batteries though.
Do I need it or just want it.
