Small but satisfying savings: we always have the central heating set to 17C when we are at home, and layer up. My parents were here for a week, and we set the heating to 21C, because my Mum gets cold easily (she is 86). I made sure to hang all my laundry in the stairwell to dry, catching all of the rising heat, and did not switch on the dryer at all in that week, despite Mum urging me to take it easy :)

After reading MSE newsletter, Hubby went to Tesco!!!8217;s and bought 8 Easter eggs for £6.00.
We downsized the size Eggs that we give our families a few years ago as the children receive many and we do not need to receive such elaborate ones. Have finally convinced my mum to do the same (she buys 11 eggs) so saving a small fortune. (£21 down to £9).

Well my Local Mr T definately ditched most of their value range some time ago, and then turning branch too so I couldn't even order for delivery. Discovered Asda still have a lot of the same things cheap still (washing up liquid, washing powder, dish tabs etc)so am getting home delivery from them now!

Asda is the only shop that now does smoked salmon trimmings. All the supermarkets use to do them.

when I buy quiche (and other similar items, pie etc), I chill them or cook them and then let me cool and chill them and if not using the whole thing before the date is up, I portion them up and then freeze. It means if I need just one or 2 portions I can take out only what is needed. Same if buying sausages, portion them up and freeze rather than freezing a whole pack together.

Freezing small portions and single servings is a really economical way of providing single meals when needed. A good supply of cling film or alum8nium foil will ensure even small items dont get wasted. When we buy sausages for example, we always wrap them singly in cling film. It,s surprising how often these small portions are useful in households where different time schedules make solo meals a regular feature..

Found a sheet of labels amongst my work stuff, can't remember why they were there - put them to good use, stuck a label over the addresses from envelopes received from mail. At least eight envelopes that I will be able to use when sending cards or letters.

I freeze sausages in bags of 2 :D I also portion out 400g packs of sandwich meat, enough for 2 days a time.

Some Tesco value stuff has gone all together, like dishcloths and rubber gloves.

Other things such as fruit, veg, meat and frozen meals have been re-branded into a Farm brand or just Tesco. Prices have remained the same.

Examples, Suntrail Farm grapes 500g (£1.25) & frozen Tesco Lasagne (£1). Previously Value products selling at the same prices. Also Tesco value loo roll is now Springforce 6pk, still £1 and slightly differently packaged & inferior to the existing Tesco Springforce 4&9 packs.

Even Wilko has got rid of a lot of their functional range - it's really annoying, as it was good value and worked well for cleaning. Instead of their dishwasher tablets, I've now found that Home Bargains cheapo ones are made by exactly the same company, £1.69 a box an clean perfectly. Only 9p more!

Asda Smartprice are good - still £1.60, but changed formulation entirely and now covered in dissolvable film, so no need to unwrap - good for environment. But they are very highly perfumed and I don't like to taste that on my food!

I used to love Wilko Functional soap filled pads too - only about 22p a pack, but they've gone. Any ideas where you can buy those cheap?

They've just changed the supplier for their functional kitchen roll and it's much thinner and not nearly as good.
