Now I am at a certain age I find that a lot of the meals out are too much for me so always have a small roll of plastic bags in handbag. If its a carvery I seldom bring meat home but regularly have extra roasties & cauli cheese to bring home. Went out for lunch with daughter & family and ordered the childrens meal, when it came (ribs) there were so many that I actually asked if I could have a container to take some home (instead of doggy bag), my grandsons portion on his adult meal was also much larger than expected so my daughter also asked if some could be packed to take home. Both were happily done so last night I had ribs and I had potatoes/carrots/parsnip/cabbage & peas. Often ask for childrens portion when I order, even chip shops.0

Although I've never done this, and probably won't (I've never been served a portion I couldn't eat, I don't think I'm that greedy, either, but never mind) I really applaud that a lot of businessses are doing this.
When you think about it, it makes sense for them. The chef isn't gutted to see half his or her carefully prepared food end up in the bin, less waste food minimises the health risks associated with storing this before collection, and crucially, less goes to landfill ultimately.
The customer meanwhile, gets to enjoy all the food they have paid for, saves money, and it gives their whole eating experience a feelgood factor.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
I have two loyalty card to local pub chains One is the Beefeater and the other the Brewers Fayre. Both of them send vouchers for a free main meal for your birthday .
I had a birthday last week and on Friday I had fish 'n'chips and peas at the Beefeater (cost if bought £12.99) and last night I went to the Brewers Fayre pub on my way home and had garlic chicken, chips and salad (cost if bought £9.99) delicious and I have had two night's off from cooking, and two nice meals which cost me nothing.
I also have a Dobbies voucher for my 'birthday treat' that is sent to you during your birthday month and it gived me a large pot of tea and two scones with fresh cream and jam at any time during February. My Dobbies card is brilliant as it costs me £10.00 per year yet for that I get two hot drinks per month (large latte's are £3.00 each)so it would cost £72.00 per year in coffee alone plus my birthday 'treat' voucher which would cost around £10.00 so for £10.00 per year I get £82's worth of stuff:):)
Happy days I use my coffee vouchers when I go to my coffee morning at U3A as we hold the coffee mornings in the Dobbies restaurant. I have lots of loyalty cards in my purse and am more than happy to be rewarded

I buy a large pot of yoghurt and then measure some out each day. Not only do I save money but I also use less plastic. I save the big yoghurt pot and us it to grow seedlings in or store things in them (the shed).2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons

I do that, too! It mean that I’m buying a better quality of yoghurt - Yeo Valley, which doesn’t contain sweeteners, thickeners or artificial flavours - and it is cheaper since said yoghurt always on 2-for-£2 for the big pots in our local supermarket. Also, every part of the pot can be recycled: lid, plastic inner and cardboard sleeve.
Like you, I often save the clear plastic inner for growing seedlings. I wash and dry them well before putting them away. Well, we had a party (a BBQ) a few years ago and someone found my stash while looking for plastic glasses. The next thing I know is the guests were using them as pint glasses for their beer.
If you want plain yoghurt, the cheapest brand I’ve found is “Henna” which sells for £1 for a big 1kg pot. It sits in the World Foods fridge and not with the “regular” yoghurts. Until recently, they did 500g pots for 48p (even cheaper than MrT’s Value brand).
Is it just me, or have most of the Value/Basic/Smart Price items disappeared from the shelves?

I also buy Yeo valley (natural) for the same reasons as you, also because it is much lower in sugar. 8g per 100g (other yoghurts are 18 -22g of sugar). I then add my own homegrown fruit.
That made me laugh - about your beer glasses. But what a good idea. Hubby is always looking for a plastic cup to drink his beer in a quizzes.2025 Fashion on a ration 0/66 coupons
