I've boiled up my rhubarb leaves in some water and put the strained result in a spray bottle - Blackfly deterant for my broad beans.

I used to know a smashing West Indian lady an old neighbour of mine years ago who used to dump all of her dandelion leaves into a bucket to soak, and after a couple of days drained the leaves out then used the remaining water in a spray to deter greenfly on her flowers She said that her Granny told her this tip when she was a little girl in Kingston. When I used to garden I did this and had smashing greenfly free flowers I also have used washing up water to spray plants with as well.Crunched up eggshells around young plants will deter slugs from nibbling at the plants and some vaseline smeared around about half way up a plant pot will also deter slugs
Sadly I can no longer do much gardening as my joints won't bend like they used to, but I did used to love growing things. Especially stuff to eat as it helped with the food bills.

I accidentally discovered ( because I wanted to look posh and there was some left)
that slices of lime and/or lemon can be left in a jug and the water just topped up.

It tastes lovely and may encourage kids to drink more water, rather than pop.

I freeze slices of lemon and lime - they can then be popped straight into drinks as required :)

I've also done the same with the tesco value cheap buckets they were only a £1 each but quite tall, so I removed the bottoms and put in tomato plants, 1 in each.

Then I bought a compost bag, quite cheaply and laid one down in the greenhouse with the tomatoes in their buckets on top, there was enough depth of soil and the plants were deep enough in the buckets. Grew great tomatoes!

Can I ask what method you used to remove the bottom from those buckets please? - (I've only just about figured out how to get holes in the bottom - never mind remove them....:o)

    oooo lots of tips!

Mine is that I shower in the evening then let my hair dry naturally (while for instance browsing the MSE forum or watching TV) - I keep brushing it so it dries straight. Saves electricity on both the hairdryer and straighteners, and also nicer for my hair :D

oh! on the carpet stains and rent deposits - carpet stains are "normal wear and tear" so unless it's anything drastic your landlord shouldn't deduct anything from your deposit.

I have been charged for carpet cleaning in every property I've lived (at least 5) even if I have had them cleaned first and they were cleaner than when I moved in!
How can this be?What rights do I and the Landlord have?
    :T:jHalf a stone off,only another 2 to go!:j:T

When I lived in rented accomodation I always took photos before and after and queried why they weren't giving back a deposit. Argue with them and usually you'll win.
CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J

At first I used the buckets for all the extra plants in the garden that I had no pots for. I originally used a thick drill bit and put loads and loads of holes in the bottom for drainage.

Then I thought tomatoes need a deep root system, so the buckets had their bottom end sawn off so that all you really had was a tall cylinder left of the bucket. It worked for me when I was able to do this, now all I can do is supervise the other half in the garden!

For my courgettes this year I have used 2 old recycling boxes that the council gave us. No longer use as we have wheelie bins. They are great. I've got my cherry tomatoes in hanging baskets.
