  • I also use cloth napkins.I hate the idea of wasting paper on napkins.
I once read that if you don't sew the seams you can trim/cut the fabric with some pinking shears and that stops them fraying. No idea if that works. :o

  • probably a very obvious one but I've just started doing it.

I've messed about with different laundry powders, gloop etc over the years and have come to the conclusion that what works for me is Mr A SP washing powder. but I have missed the nice smell so I have bought a 5ltr bottle of comfort pink fabric softener. I poured one capful of it (quite shallow cap) into a cleaned out 3ltr milk carton and then filled to the top with water and I pour this into the fabric softener compartment. I was a bit dubious about it not being a strong enough smell on the washing but it really is. I can smell it from the airing cupboard as I walk through the hall and that's with the door closed! i'm really pleased with this as the FS will last me forever now and I still get that lovely smell.

While doing gardening yesterday, I suddenly remembered something that I had seen on telly about sprinkling salt on the weed between the slabs on the patio and then pooring kettle boiled water over it. I am pleased to report that it does work since the weed is more or less gone now.

  • Ive just sent some ebay packages off using thick padded envelopes that were sent to me some time ago, i just tape white card over the front to "blank" out the used postmark and address, then write the new one on the front as normal....sent 3 today, saving around £4 in buying new padded envelopes.

I'm not sure if anyone knows about this however if you own a android or any type of phone that uses google play store. You can use "0800 wizard" app and it will convert any 0800/0845/0870 or any premium number to a landline 01/02/03 when you dial it.

There is a website that is mentioned by Martin Lewis a while back on gmtv called saynoto0870.com. it is like the app however you have to search the database for it.

    I'm gonna try this !!!

Been doing this twice a year for years as I hate using chemicals if there's a cheaper and better way. I mix 1/2 cup salt in a 3pt jug of boiling water and pour in the cracks (saves making two trips, too!). Stop pouring a few inches before grass, flower beds etc as it will seep into them and kill everything!

Little things we might not usually think of -
When you get in the car put your seat belt on, adjust seat, mirrors etc if you need to, before you turn the engine on. By doing it last every time it will save you a tiny drop of petrol, which all adds up to an extra litre every now and then

I always turn the kettle off as soon as it boils. It will go on boiling for quite a few seconds, saving you a little bit of money every time.

Dye. Navy always seem to fade quicker than most colours so I bought a dye for £5.99p and put it in the wm with 2 pairs of trousers, 2 teeshirts and a shirt. There was nothing wrong with any of them except fading, but it would have cost almost £50 to replace them.

Actually on the kettle boiling note, our kettle died not so long ago... being skint, I thought I'd take a chance on a cheapy £5 tesco value one... it works fine and shuts off within a second or so of hitting boiling! Fab :D
    On the up :D

Before buying lots of winter car supplies check what you have lurking in the car, shed, garage or under sink cupboard. I've found about 6 cans of de icer this way!
