Add a good handful of breadcrumbs to bologneise, chilli, savoury mince dishes. It is undetectable ;-) I always wizz any leftover bread and freeze it which is perfect for this0

Celery can be frozen, but it needs a bit of work. I use celery in soups, and the cheapest option is to buy a whole head, use what I need and freeze the rest. It freezes well, but needs to be chopped into 2cm (1 inch) pieces, blanched (ie. boiled for a very short time) and then frozen in the water it's been blanched in. The blanching destroys the enzyme that makes it spoil. Freezing it in water means that there's ice crystals both inside and outside the cells, so it doesn't turn to mush when defrosted. I usually use about 125g of celery in 200ml of water and this fits nicely in a 500ml freezer tub. When making my next batch of soup with this I just put the whole frozen block in the pan and reduce the amount of water by 200ml.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

the other items that are great to freeze in the warm weather are those frubes yoghurts. healthier than ice cream, and cheap as well. also great to keep lunchboxes cool and fresh.0

Even cheaper for leg-shaving - just use good old-fashioned soap. A bar lasts for absolutely ever, and is dirt cheap (every pun intended...). Don't bother with expensive soaps in those pump bottles either!0

As you suggest PJ I suspect the paper would just fall apart...was that a serious tip do you think?0 -

I use pump bottles (bought when there are offers on) and refill them with a cheap bath foam which costs less than £1 a litre. To make it go further, I water it down - roughly half water to half bath foam. I prefer it to the mess left by bars of soap on the hand basin and I really don't think it costs any more!I let my mind wander and it never came back!0 -

I can't find this mentioned anywhere else...
Hw to cook rice:
Take a large cup of rice
Put in saucepan
Measure exactly one and a half cups of water - same cup.
( no it doesn't look enough.. But try it once.. You'll see it is)
Add water to rice, put lid on saucepan and bring to boil.
When it reaches boiling point..the water will bubble to the centre.
Turn it off. Wait around 20 minutes.
Perfect rice, no fuel cost and an almost clean saucepan to wash.1
