Made me laugh too thank you
  • In answer to all your statements and questions, what am I after?

I guess I am trying to get that very rare thing. A letter from the bank saying that my "charges are unfair".

How have I come to the charge of £38 per minute? based on the banks charges of £38 for a returned direct debit, which is a computer decision, a printed letter and a mechanised postal process and takes around one minute for the process to complete (generally). I dont think I am being unreasonable.

And I will be sending an invoice to them for my time if they make a mistake, you may all think I am wasting time, but hey its worth a try.

As for the English, well I guess I am just an ordinary chap of which there are many of us, all getting ripped off by banks, none of us have a degree but if we all shout loud enough maybe, just maybe, we might get heard.

Am I trying to wind you all up? No, seems some of you do that for yourself, aaah bless.

To all of you fellow "debt nerds" who shot me down whilst I was out working a 12 hour day to keep the bills paid and unable to post a reply. Well, I guess you know best. Thanks for all your helpful comments! (written with just a tiny hint of sarcasm)

And to those of you who actually made helpful comments. Thanks guys.

  • BTW,

Thanks James, I was under the impression this was a place of support for those in a similar position.

I don't think that anyone was deliberately trying to shoot you down, or have a laugh at your expense. I also understand how you feel when it seems that the bank is just piling on unreasonable charges. I tend to react in the same way.
However, it is often best to sit back, chill out for half an hour and then look at the situation in the cold light of day.
The banks, and others, appear to be treating their customers with contempt, whilst turning in record profits. You can fight back and there are several threads which refer to the consumer action group, where people are getting serious refunds of charges from their banks.
Please look at their website before you send any letter to your bank.
All the best - just don't let them grind you down.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
