Onthebeach is profiteering from the volcano chaos.

Most hotels and other travel operators are offering full refunds -please remember they are losing money as well by doing this as not all will be able to claim on their insurance. Can't see the Credit Card companies refunding all that we've paid on charges to them. So that's another loss for agents and operators to absorb! Most companies are bending over backwards to help travellers.I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are S0466/3973. MSE doesn't check my status as a Travel Agent, so you need to take my word for it. Atol numbers can be checked with the Civil Aviation Authority. If the holiday was paid for with a credit card - would it be possible to claim a refund or a chargeback?
Yes, it's an option mentioned by Martin Lewis in his article about volcanic ash - your rights. Search the site to find it.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I am having a similar problem with On The Beach - I am trying to cancel my flights. On the beach have had £554 off me and they want another £166 to cancel the flights. I am in financial difficulties and cannot pay this. They are refusing to cancel the flights and now say I am liable for the balance. I have cancelled my card as I'm worried they will take the balance without my permission and my mortgage won't be paid. I have paid enough already, I don't think they should be allowed to get away with this. The cancellations charges are extortionate. They will rebook the flights and make over £700 out of me. I booked some flights with Thompson last year and all I lost was the deposit which is normal. Can anyone advise what I can do?I am really disappointed with Onthebeach and I am unlikely to ever use them again.
Our holiday was cancelled as a result of the volcano chaos. Our flights were refunded in full by the airline and we have been offered a refund for the hotel and transfers.
Unfortunately, onthebeach have surcharged us £30 per person (a total of £120) for cancelling the holiday! The airline cancelled - we didn't.
They also will not refund our credit card surcharge - a payment we made to offset their costs for taking a credit card (another £40). If the refund is made to the credit card, what right do they have to charge me this surcharge?
Is anyone else in the same situation or know where we stand?0 -

If they are scheduled flights it is normal that they need to pay in full, although this would normally be on booking. Which airline was it for as scheduled (incld low cost) and charter vary significantly...it should all be in the Ts and Cs of your booking.
When were you due to travel0
