Onthebeach is profiteering from the volcano chaos.

I am really disappointed with Onthebeach and I am unlikely to ever use them again.

Our holiday was cancelled as a result of the volcano chaos. Our flights were refunded in full by the airline and we have been offered a refund for the hotel and transfers.

Unfortunately, onthebeach have surcharged us £30 per person (a total of £120) for cancelling the holiday! The airline cancelled - we didn't.

They also will not refund our credit card surcharge - a payment we made to offset their costs for taking a credit card (another £40). If the refund is made to the credit card, what right do they have to charge me this surcharge?

Is anyone else in the same situation or know where we stand?

Did you call the hotel to see whether they charged a cancellation fee? If they didnt, then the travel agent is ripping you off.

Its disgusting - these companies are ripping us off.

OTB gets pretty bad reviews before this disruption

OTB will contacting the broker who the hotel was booked with and they will be charging these fees, it does really depend on the hotel broker as to what charges they will apply

Remember the usual procedure would be 100% cancellation with accomodation only providers, thats for travel within 7 days, so in all honesty you are lucky to be getting anything back

thats exactly why i'm not too fussed with losing one night as technically if they stuck to the T's & C's (which i agreed to when booking) they didn't have to refund anything at all.

Some of the companys we use are refunding every penny but just depends

Like you say in the terms and conditions you were not supposed to get anything

As far as I gather they have been contacting the hotels directly so each persons case is individual

  • OTB got some very bad press. Just do a search here on MSE.

I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

If the holiday was paid for with a credit card - would it be possible to claim a refund or a chargeback?

I notice that OTB are ABTA registered - is there any mileage contacting them regarding unfair practices?
