I really hate my rented 3 bed house

Weve(me,my husband and 2 kids) been in the house for 3 years now and its so depressing. Weve done up the lounge by buying new leather sofas, new dining set, new accessories, lamps, rugs..its still disgusting.

What can I do to cheer myself up?

Trying to save for our own house but weve only saved £500 so far. Our rent is 875pcm(Yes I know its pricey, but hey this is Berkshire, the place for some reason is expensive even though its a dump GRR:rotfl:)

Someone please lightne up my day and tell me how much renting depresses their lives too????????????????

Your renting, why not move to another rental.

    So desperate to buy.
Im just getting to the point of hating it so much as its so messy and grubby and Ive lost the 'oomph' to tidy it up etc.
If it was my own home Id take more pride in it iykwim?

If you're not so put of by it that you won't move then it can't be that bad really then can it?

Also if its just "messy and grubby" that's getting to you find the 'oomph' to tidy it!

Seems quite open and shut case to me.

can you not rent somewhere else in your area? it's hardly a hassle to change your address either. are you coming up with excuses to not move even though you don't like the place?

But It IS your home - you live there.

If you want to save money towards buying your own home, you need to stop buying items to cheer the place up - (leather sofa, dining suite and accessories) can't have been cheap.

Can you find something smaller-cheaper to rent? How old are the children - if very young, or older but same sex,you could downsize to a 2 bed.

Are you and OH both working? Is there the possibility of additional work (p/t job, home working etc). Increasing your income will allow you to save more.
Have you considered schemes such as shared ownership?

Can you reduce your monthly expenditure/do you have/and stick to a budget? Why not post up an SOA?

If you move to another property or even buy one all that "mess and grubbiness" will have to be sorted by you or you'll be charged a huge amount by the landlord to put it right. Get off your backsides and get the place sorted out properly, stop buying fancy new furniture to cheer yourselves up and get saving or you'll be stuck where you are till Doomsday.

On the bright side, you've reduced your loans by over £12,000 (according to your sig). If you can do that, you're well on your way to saving up £12,000!

If you are paying £875/mth, ask your landlord to do some redecoration for you. After three years, a bit of sprucing up is perfectly reasonable.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Why not take more pride in the house? It is, after all, your HOME where you LIVE.

From the other comments you have made it would seem you want to stay put so why not put some effort in to the property and try to make it more to your personal tastes?

If you don't, you'll have to move to get a better house that matches your tastes and makes you happier but you'll then have the upheaval of the schools, moving costs etc.

See if the LL will pay for the decoration materials and you decorate to make it nicer to live in.

I know how you feel sugarpants, i've lived in the same rented property for 9 years now and I hate it. The house is one of those shove em up types, looks great on the outside but when you live in it becomes a pain in the neck. The hassle to get anything fixed isnt worth the bother half the time and I totally understand what you mean about not having the oomph to do anything with it.

Theres lots of things I would do if it was my own home such as have a proper shower fitted (not the push on the taps type i have at the moment lol ) but I begrudge paying for all the work only for someone else to benefit when I do eventually move out. It took me 8 years to actually make an effort with my garden, up to then i'd made do with gravel and a small patio put down. I've since made it lovely but only because everything i've done can be taken with me when i move such as decking tiles.

While my house is decorated (in fact my daughters rooms been done 3 times so far alone) and clean I still dont feel like it's a home. It's just somewhere I live and will do until I can afford to buy something.
