Vodafone phone activation

I have taken out a contract with Vodafone and recieved my phone.

I am giving phone to family member, but didn't want to give for another 4 weeks.

Question is, how do i go on should there be any problem with handset as it will be after 7 days of recieving phone? it was bought online direct from Vodafone.

Would it be better to put in sim now and check out phone but obviously waste 1 month of contract. I bought phone early as deal was brill and £150 Quidco at the moment.

Surely your contract started on delivery of the phone
  • I think it starts when you first connect doesn't it?

If that is the case, what is to stop you getting the phone unlocked and using a different sim card in it, and never starting your Vodafone contract but having a free phone from them?

    It isn't how it works.

I think you'll find that the contract has already started, you don't activate contracts in the same way you do with PAYG. If you intend putting the phone away before giving it to someone you should check that it works OK now so you still have time to return under DSR if anything is wrong. If you discover a fault with the handset after 28 days the network is only likely to offer a refurb as a replacement whilst under 28 days you should be able to get a new phone.

    Hi stuluanch,

Your contract will start form when you receive the phone, not when you activate the sim. Your 30 days for returning the phone will also start from when you receive the handset.

Hope this has been of some help.
