Please can I join?! I can't believe I've not seen this thread before.
Only read a little, but like others, I feel great when I'm out drinking, but awful the next day when I can't remember anything after 10pm, can't remember getting home, have bruises etc.:(:(:(
I hardly drink really, except these big binges, I guess you'd call them. I've considered starting to drink a little every day, to see if I can build up an immunity!:D
Latest misdemeanour was Saturday, don't remember anything after 11ish. Don't remember going to a club. Don't remember being refused re-entry after going out for a cigarette (I don't smoke!). Don't remember being put in a cab. Remember walking a fair way of the route home, but don't remember why I got out of/was ejected from the taxi. Don't remember borrowing and spending £30, in addition to the £35 I took out.:(:(:(
I just don't seem to be able to recognise when I've had too much and should move on to soft drinks. I think its maybe because I only go out every few weeks so its like a blow out?
Anyone had similar experience to me?
Hiya and welcome
I've had loads of experiences like this which is why I report back daily now. I used to wake up covered in bruises and too scared to look at the text messages from my mates. I feel a lot calmer now not drinking. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0 -

Yup, I get that. I've contemplated giving up alcohol altogether. Tried it earlier this year, on the basis that it was temporary so it wasn't so scary. It was ok, like I say, I don't drink all that regularly anyway, often not for 2 or 3 weeks at a time.
I just can't believe that there's no tactic I can use to manage my drinking and know when to stop?:(
Have you given up altogether?0 -
I'm just going a day at a time. I was knocking back loads of wine at home too and I hated waking up in the morning not remembering what time I went to bed or what I had watched on TV. I used to record all my fav programmes, watch them drunk at the normal time and then have to watch them again earlier the following day before I got too drunk.
I've been AF for a week and a half. I can't think about the future as its too scary to say now that if I get invited to a wedding in the summer I won't drink, or if my best mate has a birthday bbq I'll be the only one on pop. So I just wake up and think I'm aiming for an AF day, then I get a bit bl**dy minded about it and by tea time I am normally determined that I'm staying AF until I go to bed.
Sorry, a bit of a rambleThis time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

I went out with DH and friends to the local pub last night and stayed AF (wasn't too bad). But I still woke up paranoid this morning and had to replay every moment through my mind to make sure I didn't do anything daft. Took me a good few moments to remember that I hadn't been drinking so I guess that feeling takes a while to wear off. This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.

Ah I see. Without being offensive, my alcohol issue isn't as problematic as yours perhaps. Its just when I go out, I drink to excess. I don't seem capable of pacing myself or recognising that I've had enough y'know?0

Usually vodka. Doubles. Lots of 'em. Occasionally wine, which is guaranteed to get me in a mess.:(
I think it may be a good idea to ditch that in favour of lager, which is a longer drink, more gassy so less easy to consume in great quantities, and I seem to hold it better? I drink vodka lemonades/red bull in a couple of minutes, and I've always got a drink in my hand.0 -

Give up the wine, doubles and red bull. Lager can be just as bad as wine if you are drinking quickly as most of them are over 4% now.
When I'm being careful I drink vodka lime and soda in a long glass (bars don't seem to mind giving you lots of soda). Then if I start to feel I'm getting drunk too quickly I just skip the vodka for a couple of rounds. Try and keep out of rounds and try to go to the bar without your mates around. (I know that is easier than it sounds).
Once I've had a couple of drinks though, if the mood is good in the pub my sensible head goes straight out of the window. It is easier to just be AF.This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
Fingers crossed x0
