Morning all,
Managed an AF day yesterday so that's 2 for me for the Mon-Thurs DB and 3 for the month please Sparkles.
I didn't intend on being AF yesterday, in fact it was practically enforced. I was going out for a meal last night with work colleagues and thought I was being really good when one of the bosses offered to pick me up as we live near each other to save taking two cars, I said that I wasn't going from home so would have to drive but thanks for the lift (I wasn't actually going anywhere but knew if she took me I'd be drinking at the restaurant!).
Bells were ringing from about 2pm so straight after work I went to the offy and bought 2 beers to have when I got in from the meal, I knew I'd be late in so wouldn't drink any more than that.
Went to the meal, felt v. jealous when I got there and some of them were already there in the beer garden in the glorious weather supping pints. Had a lovely meal accompanied by orange juice and lemonade, but boy did they talk, I was desperate to go home because it was getting late and felt a bit twitchy cos I hadn't had a drink.
Then the guy sitting next to me that had already had a pint of ale in the beer garden was now on his 2nd bottle of 7% cider (who was driving btw) would not stop talking and all I could smell was the alcohol on his breath, it made me feel sick and I wanted to hold my breath. I was put completely off of my 2 beers that were warming nicely under the stairs at home. So I go straight in and straight to bed.
This morning however, although I am not hungovered but have the obligatory hit by a bus syndrome, my mouth is sore, I really think that I am allergic to alcohol or something in it, gums feel swollen.
I don't want to drink tonight but am scared because I know that in about 7 hours I won't be able to think about doing anything else and a different persona takes over and I can't stop itDFW Nerd no. 496 - Proud to be dealing with my debts!!0 -

Nothing changed for me about my drinking when I didn't change myself.
When I tried the same method (willpower) again and again, I always ended up drinking.
So I had to do something different to stop drinking.
This cycle would never have been broken for me. I was heading towards an earlier, unhappy grave.
Eventually I became willing and ready to do anything to stop drinking. Fortunately I hadn't lost too much by then, but it really doesn't matter when you stop drinking.
I was always going to do something about my drinking 'tomorrow'. This was a pipe dream until I put action in to stop drinking.
'Tomorrow' was never a new day for me when I was drinking - it was just like the rest of them.
There are no hopeless cases. While many have crossed the line into alcoholism, no-one has crossed the line where there is nothing that can be done for it.0 -

Well done 115K, I do so admire your resolve. I plan an AF day today but don't feel able to declare this early. I suppose I need a let out clause just in case:o But I'm determined to do the 4 day challenge so I'm sure I'll be joining you!
Jo, leave those horrid warm beers under the stairs and be AF tonight too!! I was reading somewhere that the horrible dry mouth you get after drinking is because of the astringent effect of alcohol (rather than dehydration) so maybe that's why your mouth hurts.
Hope everyone's happy:wave:0 -
You sound nice and positive maman!
I can declare AF tonight no problems, eczema is flaring back up again and will be seeing the Dr again in a couple of weeks for a review. Avoiding practically everything to make it better and am being very careful with what I am using as per usual.
I'm on 15 AFD and will be going to 31 as alcohol irritates my eczema in ways you could not imagine.
