Help with 2010/2011 SFE app!!

Hi everyone.
I applied on 1st April for student finance, and today i received an email saying that my offer was available to see online. I thought the online application was for the tuition loan, maintenance loan and maintenance grant?
I have only been offered the tuition loan and maintenance loan of £4988.00 which was not income assessed. But i sent documentation as i wanted it to be income assessed.

I am 22, living with my partner and we have a child. i will not obviously not be working in september and my partner will be earning around £18,000, so i thought i was entitled to the maintenance grant of £2,906. The university i applied to is in london, so i thought the maximum maintenance loan was £6,928.
I understand that the amount of maintenance grant affects the maintenance loan by £0.50 for every £1.
I have also applied for the childcare grant and adult learners allowance seperately, so i am still waiting to hear back for that.

Simply put, i can't afford to go if i can't get the other grants and stuff, to be honest, my partner already pays for the house and bills etc, so wouldnt be able to help with travel costs, books and childcare.

Did your partner provide his/her details for your application?
  • I am 22, living with my partner and we have a child.

Are you married? If you are not married, you will not need to provide your partner's details. Also, did you provide details of your child?

Without seeing your application, it's difficult to work out what's going on here, you could visit the advice centre of your uni and they should be able to work out what's happened.

well thats the thing, it didnt ask for my partners details and no we're not married. i thought this would be the problem after i re-read through the application last night.
so what should i do now? what sort of details should i send? my partners p60 for year 2008/2009 and birth certficate or something? i previously sent my p60 2006/2007, 2007/2008 and 2008/2009, to prove i am finanically independent of my parents, and child benefit letter.

Student-advisor - do you have an email address i can send the pdf file of my application, as you can appreiciate that i dont really want to post my details on the forum.
  • You don't need to send any of your partner's details as you are not married. You may need to send your child's birth certificate.

If you have sent your P60s, they may be checking them to see if you meet the criteria for independence, when actually your P60s are irrelevant as you have a child.

Rather than send me your form, I recommend you see the funding advisor at the uni/college you will be studying at (you never know, it might be me!).

The other option is to give SFE a ring on 0845 300 50 90, press 2 then hammer 0 to go straight through to the queue rather than trying to navigate the menu options. They should be able to tell you what the issue is, but I can't guarantee that!

Bear in mind that SFE can be quite rubbish. I've had final assessments through without income assessments and then a month later had the proper one come through. Apparently depends on how quick they process the information.

No PFF1's needed as you're automatically entitled to the full maintenance loan/grant due to being under 25 and having responsibility for a child.

However, your partner would have needed to complete Section 9 of the PN1 form, and provide copies of the childs birth certificate/tax credit letters.
  • Ok, i applied online, so i didnt fill out form PN1, although i did look at it, and yes he did provide financial details such as income, rent, council tax, other stuff such as water gas electricity. he gave yearly figures not monthly figures as it was quite unspecific.

i think the problem may have something do with the fact that "they take the household income of 2008/2009 into consideration". well my p60 for that year shows i was earning £14,000. but i didnt send my partners p60 for that year, so that still doesnt actually explain the whole household income. but i wouldnt be earning that in september as i will be a full time student???
i am so confused, after reading the paper application theres loads of info on what evidence to send, why did the online one not have any of this, i wish i hadn't bothered with the online one.

The 08/09 income is irrelevent where you are under 25 though. The figures for your application are estimates for the 10/11 academic year, not a tax year. You can't provide documents for them!
  • Right ok, i spoke to someone on the phone on monday, they said to send my sons birth certificate, so i have, by recorded delivery i note. it was delivered on the 27th, but still nothing is showing up on the website saying they have received it. i am a bit worried tho, as i sent the short version, did i need to send the full certificate? cos i would have to send off for one of those.
