I can't believe how expensive Uni is

at the risk of sounding terribly rude, how the hell have you managed to rack up £18k + worth of debt in two years? Did you not get a part time job whilst you were studying? I asume you are in england where you have to pay tuition fees, but were you not able to save any money before going to uni? What kind of course are you studying, are you incurring excessive expenses on books, accommodation?
go to wales, borrow books from library so only pay the late fees lol. i did take PT work. Was not able to save any significant amount of money for uni, as i didn't take time off between college and uni.0 -
I've racked up £18264 + interest and i've still got 2 years after this year! and this year was a half fee year. how the hell am i ever going to pay that back. and then they're surprised people don't pay up / lie about their status etc. i wish i'd lied now! it'll cost me £30k+ to be honest
Are you aware of how much a university education would cost you if you had to pay for the full cost of it?
Student loans are very lenient, and it's not like commercial debt.0 -
Despite it being lenient, its still annoying to be so much in debt! By the time I finish I'll be nearly £30K in debt, just from tuition fee and maintenance loans - which don't even cover my rent this year, and barely do next year!0

You can thank your labour government on the 6th May for the way FE is paid for...0

But don't forget it was the Tories under margaret thatcher who did away with student grants.
It's only a game

And don't forget it's only been the Lib Dems who've called to abolish tuition fees. They plan to scrap fees over 6 years for those doing their first degree. Starting with immediately scrapping fees for final year students.0 -

Where does FE funding come into things -we're discussing degree level education!0 -
You can thank Nu Labour for increasing the supply of debt-laden graduates that nobody needs. The taxpayer could have afforded to fund tuition and perhaps a modest student grant if numbers had been kept reasonable.0

Indeed. But what a shame this is just about the only LibDem policy I agree with. Free tuition...but taxed to death on graduation.0 -
I'm £21,000 in debt. By the end of this year it will be £28,000 - thats student loans
I work during the holidays (well easter and summer) and only have a £750 overdraft - which i don't live out of like most of my friends.
I always find that the money that they give you (well lend) Covers the rent and then only leaves me with £200-300 per term to live off. Its impossible for me to get a job at uni, because its in a small town and the competition for jobs is really high. Most people who get jobs are the people that stay over the summer, and i can't afford to do that.
I work my !!! off during the holidays, sometimes working 6 day weeks so that i can live comfortably and go out and socialise with my friends like once a week, most of the time less! I'm quite sensible and have quite a bit less debt than my friends who have racked up massive overdrafts and owe their parents money. My parents earn quite a bit which means that i don't get very much grant, and it doesn't help that they don't support me at all but i get on with it.
I am in my fourth year though, one of the years didn't go to well because of personal problems so i had to repeat.£11,000 in 2011 = £71.740
