Given that you're a long-term poster, I'd hope you've simply mis-read the posts rather than that you're intentionally distorting what I've said, but for the record the "cretin" you refer to isn't posting here and is instead an employee of Student Loans company, and the fact that he is a cretin is evidenced by his employers spending hundreds of pounds to put his errors straight. In the interests of keeping the moral high ground, I've ignored the cheap jibe in your OWN post that itself is suggesting I restrain myself from similar behaviour ;)

You referred to cretins plural, which is what I objected to: it's neither a nice thing to say nor relevant to the current situation. In tandem with to your aside about the intellect of posters who were trying to HELP, you were starting to sound like a nasty piece of work TBH.

"Student Loans were the last bunch of 'rule following' cretins who dabbled..." - there's the exact quote from my post. Personally I can't see any room for confusion there in exactly who it is I'm calling cretins - Student Loans employees or forum members. Still, in case there is some ambiguity in that which I've missed, thanks for the opportunity to clarify that I haven't (yet) considered any poster to these forums a cretin. As for it being too 'stong' a term, you should have heard what his boss called him when he telephoned me to apologise for his junior's errors :p.

There's no point in posting here merely to hear people agreeing with me if I'm wrong and I've every interest in hearing points of view which show flaws in my reasoning, where they exist. For example, I don't think its particularly constructive to post "enjoy your ruined credit file" along with loads of handclaps, but I haven't spotted your post criticising that poster! And as I said previously, your own post wasn't exactly free from barbs was it? How about we both agree that the written word is no substitute for the spoken one and that there may have been some innocent misunderstanding of what the other person really meant to imply - then we can get back to debating the real 'argument' here. Speaking of which...

A little research from helpful posters on this very forum have revealed a URL which somewhat goes against some of the advice here - http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/after_you_buy/know-your-rights/mobiles/
  • (Once I'd finally been put through to someone in England) resolution obtained. Choice of an exchange for a G1 (ewww, no thanks) or keep my G2 and have a modest discount from my bill each month (that'll do), pay outstanding amount (adjusted for discount) and resume contract, adverse info removed.
Good result all round and much thanks for the advice both public and PM.

Good result. But will that eradicate the blot on your Experian Credir score record as you wanted
  • Yup. I'll have to wait for the proof of the pudding etc., but I'm told that it'll all be fine.
