Lawnmower recommendations

I went to cut my grass today, for the first time this year, only to find the cable split in two

So.. as this is the first place I look before I search around online, does anyone have any fab recommendations for lawnmowers, ie the best one for the cheapest price.

Mid sized lawn, full of weeds! Feeble female only use.

Thanks

I have just bought a Flymo hover mower from Argos, it was reduced from £90 to £60 (don't know when that offer ends, sometime this week I think).

It's my first ever mower and I've got a mid-large sized garden with uneven and slight slope.

TBH I was aching quite a lot after using it, but I don't know whether an electric rotary mower would have been any more easy to use in my circumstances.

    And I'm a feeble female too :-)

Edit: Homebase have a 10% off deal this weekend, in case that's worth taking into consideration with any comparisons you make.

Thank you. I've been doing a bit of looking around, seems the Flymo's in general, get a terrible write up! I've found a Bosch Rotal 32 for £55.98 in B&Q that gets a great write up and is cheap! It looks very similar to what I have now, says it's very lightweight and effective. Now just looking to see how I can get it as cheap as possible (vouchers, codes, cashback) etc etc hehe!

Its Rotak not Rotal , but if you are googling , you would have found that out by now :D

I bought the slightly larger model two years ago .
Works fine. Small niggel , cable is attached , pain to put away with out cable tying itself in knots.

    I cut cable , its joined , when I use it :D

I meant to type Rotak! Found it cheapest so far at Homebase, £54.

get a hover mower..as they float on a cushion of air and are able to be moved easily..also if you get one with a grass collection box on it makes your work easier...

Anything around the £50 mark will do the job just fine...

as for cable getting into knots try spraying it with a little non stick cooking oil and wiping with rag...also put the cable away propelry each time!!

sorry but I've seen nothing but bad reviews for flymos of that price, people even saying they couldn't believe they got through the test phase before production. I had one once years ago, have had a rotary ever since.

Got a Flymo myself and will not got another one, does not cut the grass very well. Have you tried getting a replacement cable or trying to fix cable.
I managed to repair the cable on my flymo trimmer when I cut through it last year by re-joining the broken part to the trimmer which shortened the cable length.
    I hate migraines.
  • I bought a Rotak 34 last summer, and am very happy with it. It clears a lot of grass in one pass, and the grass-box holds a lot before you have to stop and empty it. Also has a pair of hooks where you can wind up the flex.

I wouldn't know how to fix the cable myself and if I took it to the repair shop, plus get the blade sharpened, I would imagine it wouldn't be much less than the new Bosch, which I bought today at Homebase for £54.

My daughter is now cutting the grass (for money, of course, she wouldn't do it for love).... seems to be going good right now, :o

no hooks for winding on this one, but I think there is one on the old mower, so I could take it apart and put it on the new one :D
