Does your dog get fed up with the same food?

No, you can mix what you like with Bakers, it is still junk - it is full of artificial colourings, which do no good whatsoever and may cause behavioural problems. It is also very expensive for a low quality food. Buy something that is good for him and stick with it - maybe soaking it first and mixing some timmed meat or scraps in to make it more interesting. But it is vital he gets proper nutrition - pups can end up with some quite serious problems (bowed legs etc) from consuming an inadequate diet.0

i have had my dog on the raw diet for two weeks and he loves it, has finally started to gain and keep weigh on after weeks of being poorly. my only problem is finding a supplier. i have heard that there is a new place opening in south wales but i have still to find out where.0

Ok, sdo I have now ditched the Bakers Complete Puppy food and have ordered some Orijen which will be here Tuesday. I am expecting somebody to say that this too is rubbish as we all have different opinions on what to feed our dogs, but..hey ho I will give it a go and if he likes it I will stay with it!You live..You learn.:)0

I feed raw, so my dogs get a completely different meal everytime...tonight they are having whole rabbit each.
If I was to feed commercial, would I change their meals in the same way.??? Hell yes, unless their is a reason as to why I shouldnt (sensitive tum maybe). I would chop and change brands/flavours dried/wet whenever I saw fit...same as I do with my cats. ATM they are on Orijen Fishy cat one, with various wets (good quality ones) but I will probs buy a bag of something else next month...I dont have fussy cats, they love their grub, and get as excited as the dogs do about meal times0 -

I think most people recognise that Orijen is a good quality food - hope it suits!
I think there is pretty much a consensus that Bakers is crap, and overpriced crap at that... lots of dogs do great on cheap foods, but I would always look out for one that is not full of food colouring!0 -
having said that, I was having to console a very upset elderly neighbour the other day.
Said lady is on a very tight budget, and always puts her dog 1st (little Lurcher)..went into a pet store to buy her usual food (Chappie in the mornings and then various minces/eggs/fish in the evenings etc plus FBOs, Vit e, Eve primrose oil, and Glucothingy)
Have to say her dog is very healthy and happy, has good poos, and is very much adored.
This little lady be told by the PS manager that she was feeding her dog carp, the diet is full of rubbish (which it isn't) and that if she carried on, her dog would be dead before long.
Now, Chappie is not brilliant, but its not terrible either, and this poor woman, ended up paying £40 for a bag of Symply ( i read the ingredients, and I was disgusted ) and now she has no money left for herself for the week!
Im all for people feeding their dogs the best they can afford, but there has to be a limit to what some can afford.
So said pet shop is going to have a lovely visit from me, followed by a strongly worded letter to their head office. Absolute disgrace.
sorry for rant0 -
Glad I saw this thread - I was going to enquire about Wagg dried food - our fostered (and soone to be adopted - hopefully!) Beagle has arrived with us plus a bag of the beef variety - she adores it! I'm trying to teach her some manners (not sticking her face in the bowl before the food hits it) but she eats it all, every single time. Glad to see it gets the thumbs up - if we're allowed to keep her I will have to buy a large plastic container to keep it in, as she will steal it if she can!
Any recommendations where we can buy a large securely lidded container for the 15kg bags please?:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

Lots of people claim Wagg is crap because it is cereal based and relatively low on meat - however, I dont subscribe to that idea, as we do not really know what a domestic dogs ideal diet is - they have evolved alongside us for so long, living on our leftovers, (which would not be prime steak!) that I think they are pretty versatile!
Some vegetarian dogs live to very ripe old ages (one was a guinness world record holder for longevity) which suggests lots of meat is is not vital for canine health, and my last terrier made it to about 17 on Wagg, so I have no qualms feeding it!
Also, most working greyhound diets (the performance atheletes of the canine world) are cereal based!
threemuttleys - I am so sorry that happened to the old lady - I feel very strongly about it too - most dogs will do fine on something like Chappie and it sounds like that dog had a top class diet - the ethics of companies and shops pushing expensive dog food (often by emotional blackmail) do worry me when some people are struggling to keep their pets due to financial worries.. the manager deserves a b0llocking for using such unfounded scare tactics.. good luck!! I think a couple of crates of chappie would be fair recompense...
Sagaris - no idea about a container - I think some people use flip top bins - I just put mine in the cupboard under the stairs with a clip on the top.. and the cupboard door firmly shut - otherwise the dog mysteriosly vanishes and much rustling can be heard!!0 -
We had a flip top bin before, but it doesn't clip shut - and a certain person has found she can flip the top and help herself too - or if she's really hungry, knock it over and have the whole contents out all over the floor!
Will keep looking for something suitable and beagle proof! Our last dog would never dream of eating before she was told, let alone nick the food, so this one is a complete revalation to us - but she's lovely, just hoping we are allowed to keep her!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j
