Does your dog get fed up with the same food?

As a first time dog owner I can't help but wonder if dogs get fed up with the same old food every day. My vet said to find a dry food my dog likes and stick to it but after a while he goes off them and likes a change. I do switch over gradually as I am aware that the change could upset his tummy. He still prefers his tin of Chappie in the mornings though but will eat dry food in the evening. He also has treats to break the monotony. Surely it must be boring for a dog to eat the same thing all the time? At least our cats get a different flavoured food each day.

No, my vet recommended a dry complete dog food as my b1tch suffers with allergies. When I queried whether she would get bored with it, I was told that we are in charge and the dog will eat what we give them! To be fair, she loves it and rarely leaves any. My adopted boy demolishes his breakfast and dinner every meal without fail.

The cat also eats the same meal, day in day out.

My two dogs only have chappie. They eat what they are given and they enjoy it, day in, day out. The cat however does get variety and guess what he is picky as heck! If he doesn't get the right flavour for the day of the week / his mood / the weather then he will refuse to eat it and we go through a lengthy battle of me refusing to give another flavour, him walking round the house yowling and even attacking the dogs! Stick with the chappie for the dogs, its one of the best you can feed them, just ask your vet, you can get tinned or dry and if you really must (for the sake of your own feelings,) there are two flavours - original or chicken and rice but it is best to stick to one. Swapping flavours within the same food type especially chappie probably won't cause any digestion problems but swapping brands will unless you gradually introduce the food over a matter of a week or so by mixing in with the old but honestly it is not worth it and you could end up creating a monster - hence the cat warning!

Yes mine do, they eat a mix of dried and meat but get some days where they will wolf it down and others where they turn the nose up at it.
My OH refuses to change it though and I always feel sorry for them, but I think the warm weather may be putting them off eating??? Not sure but they will eat it later when it is darker, not sure if it's just because they are far to hungry by then or not:o

I give mine the same kibble, but mix in different flavour of pet mince, not so as they don't get bored, just that I grab whatever mince they have when I go to pets at home. That said, I'm changing them to raw soon and they'll pretty much be having different meat every day.

Although I think my dogs would eat anything, they're always excited at meal times.

I can honestly say I have never had a dog which has 'gone off' one brand of food. If a dog won't eat, I'd suggest leaving the bowl down for 10 mins, then removing it until the next meal time.
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

If you tried removing it after 10 mins with my dog you would be 9 mins 50 seconds too late

My lab would never get fed up with food! She will eat anything and everything! That said, when she was a young pup she did start leaving her food, but we were told to stick with it and take away after 10mins etc, we also add a small amount of warm water (helps release the flavour) to her dry kibble. This helped loads, and as I said, now we have the problem of trying to get her to slow down. lol.
Personally, I wouldn't keep changing the food, but instead as others said, leave for 10mins and remove, they wont starve themselves and they'll learn its the only meal they're going to get. Also try a little warm water too.

My dog likes a change from time to time. He has dried food, with either some value meat on the top, or a small tray of ceasar (not mixed in, just arranged on top).

If cooking a joint/poultry, he has some of the leftovers (meat and veg) with his niblets.

I like to vary my dogs food, there fed mainly dry but also get raw mince, tripe, sometimes tinned but not very often. They get leftovers mixed in as well when theres any left :rotfl:and as of today I'm starting the pup on raw bones, hes never had them before but the older dog has.

Dogs are scavengers they will eat what they can get hold of.

Those that don't eat straight away are just being fussy, hoping you will give them human food.
