Weekly Signing On Again At Jobcentre for Six Weeks
Comments
-
When I crossed over the "6 month" line on my last JSA claim, the advisor I was assigned was such a d**k that I applied for something like 20 jobs in 24 hours, one of which I was given a week later. The mere thought of seeing my advisor again scared me into doubling my job search efforts. I just wished they'd given me the tw*t at the beginning of my claim!
Anyway, OP, the 6 weeks happens to everyone. If you get the "extra help" for job searching, I see you as lucky. When I did my 6 week stint after 13 weeks, I think I got even less time given to me when I signed on than I did before.
Best of luck with the job hunt.0 -

'Advice' based on personal experience or knowledge is fine - assumptions based on an individuals perception and supposition is not.
I have posted my comments based purely on my personal experience of attending my local jobcentre at a time when unemployment was rising alarmingly (and will continue to do so when the inevitable hatchet falls on the public sector).
I (and many others) take exception to comments from people who have not experienced jobseeking during this recession and offer 'advice' based on what they think they know or read in the Daily Mail and do not take into consideration a persons individual circumstances.
BTW - The first paragraph of the quote you highlighted was 'originally posted' by me.0 -
Having been out of work now since Jan, I have to attend the jobcente for the next six weeks as a weekly signer. It is depressing enough having to attend every fortnight, but even more so having to go down there every week!
I thought they were going to scrap signing on altogether and bring out a system whereby you could sign online without having to physically attend the jobcentre. Did this fall through or something?
You mean they actually expect you to do something to look for a job every week in return for your JOB SEEKERS allowance? Shocking! I would complain about this blatant victimization. How dare they ask you to do something in return for benefits?! Just who do they think they are?0 -

Again someone generalising and a stupid comment to make.
Not everyone who signs on receives jobseekers allowance.
Many unemployed who are not entitled to income based JSA (Likely because they have been prudent and saved for when times get difficult) sign on with the misperception that JCP will help them find a job but will receive no benefits or little help.
Of course, some will receive pension credits, however, many unemployed people have paid sufficient pension credits over the course of their employment (30 years) who just want to get back to work and expect JCP staff to help them.
They will be disappointed.0 -
im currently been signing on since 30th June for the six week thing, when i was last there i was threatened wit the new deal again, but she said do something voluntary or do some training course to keep me off it, even after signing on Wednesday ive have not had my payment yet, as it got suspended for a week, but that was from the 1st to the 7th of this month, i did get money was on the 12th July, but that was for one week's money,0

I just noticed that about the first paragraph but at the end of the day this is an open forum and you will get differant views from differant people from differant backgrounds on that subject and it is upto the OP to decide whose replies they wish to listen to and which ones not to.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!
4 people on the ignore list....Bliss!0 -
agree with the comments. Unless you've ever signed on you can't understand.
When I got to my reviews at 3 months I got even less help than before... and would wait up to an hour every week to wait on them basicly calling me over to sign a sheet off paper than saying they'd see me next week. I also did not get any of the extra costs back and when you only get 50 pound a week the extra 3.50 or whatever travel costs seem a lot more money.
I think tomorrow i'll be put back on weekly as I have my 6 month review and I'm dreading that. I went for it two weeks ago to be told their 'systems had die and they'd be in touch.. sign here bye'. I've never been offered any help in any form from my job centre. I've got an honours degree and job search almost every week day. So I've been trying. Without much experience no where bothers to be in touch. Was told 3 month ago at the review they'd get me work experience. It never happened. Even with me reminding them off it.
Anyway I don't agree with the weekly sign ons. The every two weekly ones are fair enough I think cause obviously you should be expected to see people face to face and have them pretend to check your book (some do... most don't). I feel like when they make you go weekly its to annoy you more than anything haha. It's hard cause there will be plenty who just don't bother to look for work but theres also people who are really trying and won't get the help or support they need.0 -
What is funny is that they are now changing your sign on time each time to try and stop those who are working as well as signing on. Pointless if they aren't changing the day also, they can still work and just have that day off each week.
Yes I know it would mean more work for JC staff if you change the day all the time plus your NI # has something to do with the day you sign.0 -

I prefer not to comment on topics I have no idea about or not experienced.
I suspect posters who require genuine information about a topic would rather it was from people who have experience or knowledge of it - rather than from those who think they know - based on assumptions and speculation.0 -
I just pull up outside in my BMW and give the keys to the minion that stands just inside the entrance (you all know the type, dirty rubber soled shoes, creased shirt, non matching tie and crumpled dirty trousers) and ask to look after the car and make sure I don't get clamped.
I then go to my station and have a flirt and a laugh with the pretty young girl that checks my signature and she prints me off a job spec and I promise to be a good boy and look for work, then thats it 5 mins then I am off to the gym and lunch in Knightsbridge ;o))0
