Didn't know that! Suppose OP won't be travelling with Libra then!

    What's your budget?

We went with Bales last Christmas and did their "Wonders of Ancient Egypt" tour (Cairo & the Nile). The tour included flights, cruise, meals and guided tours. Abu Simbel was extra, but money well spent.

It was one of the best holidays I've been on and well organised, so I'd recommend them.

    Hi,

It was a few years ago but we did 4 nights in Luxor then flew to Aswan to cruise back up to Luxor for 4 nights with Voyages Jules Verne.

It was amazing (although so hot, would never go back in July!) and the boat was fab. Stayed in the Sheraton on the banks of the Nile which was great.

They also do/did several packages so you could do Cairo before Luxor or Cairo and the Nile trip etc ... plenty of variations I think.

Not sure if they are the cheapest but we had a great time.

    Happy holidays!
  • you can do specific cruises on the other side of the dam.. but most start from Luxor. top tip: its very early wake up calls, extreme heat and quite frankly all inc which sounds great for a beach holiday in the costas is wasted on a NIle cruise, as the water is cheap enough and can be obtained everywhere (never expensive) . Its more important to go for a 5 star boat with full board. I can recommend the Jazz Regency- superb chefs.. look them up. They also as a company offer independent Nile cruises and operate through Thomas Cook/ coop/ etc. All trips are included in the price.. beware though, the holiday reps/tour guides try and home in on your conscience for a large tip on top of their UK salaries, which go an awful long way in Egypt at the end.. you have already paid them in the price of the holiday- do not be taken in by them.

Have a great time and take a good camera!

i'm due to go on the jaz regency at the end of june, it sounds amazing! i was just wondering what the bar prices were like as i've heard drinks are expensive on a nile cruise. for example how much is a beer? i'm not a big drinker but want to be prepared! also how noisy is it on board? (engine noise)
    thanks :)

I was on the Jaz Royale in Jan. Drinks are UK restaurant prices (for wine) for a smallish glass. The wine was drinkable - just ! Didn't try the beer.

If you are towards the rear of the boat there is some engine noise. You don't tend to travel much at night so it shouldn't be a problem. I had a cabin about two thirds of the way back - no engine noise at all there.

Generally the ship was fine. Food: very good generally, Bottled water was free - lots of it. Tea/coffee was free, even with waiter service - the Egyptians actually know how to make reasonable tea as well !
Cabin/bathroom was kept clean, a/c worked very well.
    Crew very pleasant and helpful.
Make sure you have a good sun hat. I took a cricketer's white hat, felt silly asking for it in my local sports shop with snow on the ground ! but had lots of queries as to where I got it though.

Have done the red sea magic cruise twice with Thomson. Fantastic trip, though long days (12-14hours), particularly when visiting Petra, Cairo and Valley of the Kings. But a fantastic experience and well worth the long days. These long trips usually include a meal at a hotel and a snack/lunch box. The trips themselves are pricey, about £90 .Nile cruise makes excursions more accessible, giving free time afternoons or evenings.Remember to be careful with hand hygiene, particularly after handling money to avoid tummy troubles. Have a lovely trip.
