It is not 'part of the fun' when it leads to somebody getting the incorrect information. A lot of people, especially newbies, do not think to look at the date, and therefore take the information given as still being accurate.
They do this on the TripAdvisor forums and it makes things much 'tidier', and easier to find information which is relevant.
It is part of life, it does not need controlling to deal with an occasional occurrence, which some see as a problem.
Usually when someone has posted on a very old thread it's spotted & pointed out quite quickly.
I've posted on very old threads, not spotted it, hey ho.

I seem to remember looking through a Lakeland thread there, and there were lots of posts like:
'This is great and a serious bargain, I've bought 3! [link]'
Naturally 99% of the links were dead because they were so old!My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
Can you give an example where a thread has continued aimlessly along with someone getting incorrect advice.

The Benefits board is a prime example of where this happens pretty frequently, it is certainly more than an 'occasional occurrence'. It seems pretty common on the Consumer Rights boards also.
As well as it leading to incorrect advice being given, it creates confusion as to who actually needs the advice - the OP or a new poster.
Barneysmom, I agree it is more suitable on some boards than others. But it should be possible to apply the measure to selected boards only.Gone ... or have I?0
