Closing old threads after say 1 year?

I have noticed we keep getting old threads dragged up that are now pretty much useless. They get dragged up either by newbies or spammers.
Could we not try and reduce this by having an automatic closing of all threads that are over say 1 year old?

I can see your point.
There are threads going back several years with 5000+ replies. Often the original post is no longer relevant, but the replies seem to have acquired a life of their own, drifting across every subject under the sun.
Some have 500,000+ views, and I doubt any viewer reads the whole thread. They probably often have a brief look, discover that the conversation is not what they were looking for, and move on, feeling that their time has been wasted.0 -
the irony will be in 2 years time when someone brings this one backAlways ask ACAS0

Why does it matter ??
Many old threads have useful information that can be added to.

Good grief - if this were put in place Old style would have 2 threads and piece of string left on its forum.

That's part of the fun & it's not that common.
It does not need endless rules policing the threads.
I wish other forums had the freedom MSE has.

It is not 'part of the fun' when it leads to somebody getting the incorrect information. A lot of people, especially newbies, do not think to look at the date, and therefore take the information given as still being accurate.
They do this on the TripAdvisor forums and it makes things much 'tidier', and easier to find information which is relevant.Gone ... or have I?0 -
On certain threads like Tripadviser, yes I do agree but Old Style threads could be left alone?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
