other venue though wants a 50% deposit which is £1000! looks like we may have to get a credit card after all!
  • If you really really want the other venue over everything then I agree with Alyssa and just beg in a full of tears, they need to give you the £500 just to shut you up kind of thing.

Personally I could not throw my parents £500 away, so I'd do everything in my power to get it back x

i shall try the best friend call first, ( her dad is best friends with the owner of the hotel)

do you know i never paided the full deposit so technically the place isn't mine anyway as i haven't payed in full my deposit.

What do you get as part of the deal for each place - MC, cake stand, linen, chair covers etc?

just spoke to my mother she is fine with it if i am happy she would rather me be happy and have lovely memories than spend 8 months moaning that i dont like my venue and regreting it.

    whats MC?

linen is included in both as is cuterly and glasses but thats it in for both.

some places will let you have the deposit back if they can secure another booking in place of yours. give them a sob story as long as there is no way of them finding out about the other venue but if they say no, ask if they would consider on those grounds? It might not help immediately but if in a coupel of months they give you the £500 back, then it will still be a help..!

    QUOTE]

My guess would be master of ceremonys :)

my vote would be to give parents money back and lie too its a forgivable lie if it saves their feelings

I totally sympathise i know its difficult when you want somewhere and agree with others you may regret it if you don't

    good luck xx

although i've told my mother i think i shall still lie to her give her my £500 then she'll it to me back so then nothing is lost.
  • If the first venue refuse to give your deposit back, could you transfer it to another date and use it for some kind of party instead? A late engagement do or something? Just thinking that way you wouldn't feel you had given the hotel £500 for nothing as you would have benefited from it in some way
