Are there lots of Spanish, Italian hire cars sitting in Calais? Can we do a deal?

Options
Having heard lots of stories of British tourists 'stranded' abroad who chose to rent cars and drive to the Channel ports, do the rental counters in northern French sea ports now have a surplus of cars belonging to their partner offices in Mediterranean countries?

Since these were all one-way rentals, and the cars are now in the wrong place (ie not belonging to that country's branch of Avis, Budget, Europcar etc) and ultimately needing to go back, is now the time to get a stonking deal on a one way rental from Calais back to the Med? Surely the rental agencies would rather rent them for below market rates if they were going to be returned rather than pay to have them freighted back?
