I was making the point that they presumaly have never had to survive on benefits if they can afford homes here and abroad.

You do realise that you have moaned about people being judgemental towards the OP whilst judging someone else yourself?

I wasn't judging them, but their comments which seemed a bit rich (pardon the pun) coming from someone who presumably has never had to survive on benefits.

I really don't know why you seem to have the need to have a go at me AngelBadger. At least I have offered support to the OP - which is more than can be said for you and many of the other posters on here.

Lillyme - I can't believe all the nasty comments that you are getting!! It was quite clearly a misunderstanding at the time - very easy for ..

I notice that seven-day-weekend's area is given as West Midlands,
England /Granada Province, Spain - presumably has plenty of money if they also have a home in Spain!!

    .

What has my location got to do with anything? How do you know we don't live on relatives' sofas in each location?

FYI, from 2004 until February this year we lived on under £10k a year (total). Also in the past we have lived solely off Incapacity Benefit, Child Benefit and my tiny wage as a lollipop lady (and had a mortgage at the time). So yes, I do know what it is like to have to budget a small income.

Also I did not say anything nasty to the OP, in fact I said she should try and get the payment reduced.

So I don't think you should pick on me any more than you say people are picking on the OP.

Nobody has to pay rent out of JSA/IS, they get rent and council tax paid on top of that! When claimants say they have only 50/64 per week to live on they always ignore the fact that they receive this as well.

Not everyone gets rent on top as not everyone is a tenant. I own my own flat outright so obviously don't get money towards rent or mortgage, and still have to pay my own service charges, ground rent and insurance.

I now get £49.86 per week to live on, I know my rent n most of CT is paid - but water-rates,electric ,TV licence, food, fares to interviews, toiletries etc etc is not paid - which is why I have asked for a reduction in pay back.

I haven't had an opportunity to pay it back till now as they have never contacted me in all these years with regard to it.

It is difficult to live on £50 a week, I get the full JSA which is around £280 a month but am supposed to pay £115 a month in housing costs out of that. You do not NEED a TV license providing you do not watch live television - just watch BBC iPlayer and 4OnDemand instead.

For food try Weezl74's many thread - 'Eat Healthily on 50p per Day' etc. Public transport you can usually get discounted, ask at the Jobcentre for a form to get a bus pass. In my area it is 50% but not sure if that is standard. Toiletries cost next to nothing if you get Tesco Value or £1 shop stuff.

Water should not be any more than £10 a month if you are metered and sensible with water - I turn the shower off whilst soaping up. If you cannot have a meter then you will be entitled to an assessed charge which is usually much less than than the old rates system.

I haven't at any point 'had a go at you'. I merely pointed out that you were being hypocritical. You cannot judge that someone has never been on benefits by where they currently live.

I offered advice to the OP, and didn't judge her, she thanked my post if you want to check. So whether you think I've been supportive or not, I have offered advice.
  • someone suggested budgeting £15 a week for bills, I do not think £60 a month would cover gas, elec, water tv licence and a pay as you go phone, more lilke £90-£100 which does not leave a great deal for food, and toiletries. I can't help but notice how personal some of the replies on this forum are compared to those on the "Debtfreewannabe" one. On the latter not many people wade in with replies blaming people for getting into debt. Think people should give more thought to forum etiqutte.
