I just did a speed test and am supposed to be getting 13meg yet I have constant lag! (were with sky and close to the exchange)
Am looking for ideas or reasurance. I think its all the photos taking up the C drive space (80gb I think) and running Vista on 2GB RAM. So would getting a portable Hard Drive to put the photos on (plus a back up) and replacing my 2x1GB RAM with 2x2GB RAM solve the problem?

Try doing a ping test at https://www.pingtest.net
Once you've done it, post the results here (the Ping, Jitter and Packet Loss) are the figures I'm interested in.0 -
Whatever you have stored on the pc as no effect on your broadband speed.0

Hi
I did the pingtest. What do these results mean?
Packet Loss: 0%
Ping: 17ms
Jitter: 1ms
Your Grade A:
An excellent result! Expect all Internet applications to work very well assuming you have sufficient bandwidth
Thanks

I find that Java slows my laptop down,as it did on my old laptop, both are Vista basic & on Firefox.0

32 bit windows cannot deal with memory above 3.5Gb, Vista is a bit bloated and can slow things down a bit.
IIWY I'd have a look at what programmes are running at startup, as too many will slow you down.
Microsoft has a Fix it (Beta) tool which may help with your trouble shooting.

I assume, to idle to go back to your first post, that you have run Ccleaner, and defragged the harddisk, and checked for any nasties with malwarebytes antimalware.
BTW Are you connecting wirelessly? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
