it isn't half convincing! im relatively computer savvy and even I was wondering if it was legit or not, god help my middle aged parents if they get it! The .exe malwarebytes won't run

rename it by right clicking on the file name and changing it to qwert.exeEx forum ambassador

Reboot and run your computer in safe mode, then run your malware program to remove the virus. I too got infected with this and putting my laptop in safe mode was the only way I could tackle it.
@Jamtart6: Spyware Doctor is safe yes, I have it but I only run it for occasional scans as a friend said it was a "system hog" if you left it running.0 -

ok , 2nd tool in armoury , download and run combofix
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
again post the log file , if it fails to run then rename the exe fileEx forum ambassador
