Vista defender - please help!

I keep getting a programme called vista defender popping up telling me I have a virus and need to scan using their software. I'm assuming it is a virus itself, can someone tell me what to do so get rid of it please? many many thanks im desperate for help!

You've been infected, so no.
Try Avast, after you have scanned and fixed with malwarebytes.
You might have to carry out the exe fix listed here too

It says the virus is a trojan keylogger

It's the virus/malware/trojan, it's named that way to make you think it's legit!!

Vista Defender is a false bit of software that "finds" infections that do not exist
will then ask you for miney to "fix" the problem
download malwarebyts as advised
do not download Avast unless you have removed AVG, you should never run 2 antivirus at the same time ( or stick with AVG if you are happy with it , we can remove the infection and leave it on)Ex forum ambassador

it isn't half convincing! im relatively computer savvy and even I was wondering if it was legit or not, god help my middle aged parents if they get it! The .exe malwarebytes won't run
