It's true.
You need an insurance certificate, an MOT certificate, the renewal notice or your registration document. All with the correct address!£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

That is correct. You will need current insurance (and MoT) before you can tax it.0 -

Nah, MOT & insurance certificates don’t have addresses on, also I regularly do on-line tax renewals for cars where the address on the V5 and on the insurance is different.

Indeed you do but I was commenting on the “correct address” part of Rikki’s post0

Does any expert have direct answers to my 5 questions above?
Thanks. Still really concerned about this.0 -
My questions are:
1. Will there be a big pile of reminders/warnings/fines waiting for me at my old house?
Yes we already had one letter saying we needed to tax our old car, dread to think how many you have now.
2. How much will these amount to? I know the original fine for not renewing is £80 (does this go up?), and I know there is a fine for driving without (how much is this?)
no idea sorry
3. Is there any risk I'll have some sort of CCJ against my name? It's been so long that I worry I may have been taken to court (without knowing) for not paying the fine.
No idea, sorry
4. Is there a chance someone could have seen my car out and about and reported it to the DVLA? If so would I know about it, or would they have sent me a letter to the old house?
If your car has been mobile then i think they would have contacted you.
5. Are there fines etc for failure to re-MOT as well?
My father has a car off road and has not been fined for it not having a MOT. I think as long as its off the road, you should be fine.
My partner has only been driving for a year (i still can't) so i don't know all the answers. I would just phone the DVLA and explain the situation and see what happens. The longer you leave it , the worse it will be.0 -
the only way to find out, is ring and sort it out. then you will know once and for all0
