Corrupt IE8, Can I fix it?

Good evening
I cannot access Internet Explorer 8 on my main PC, it is stating it is corrupt, is it possible to fix this myself and if so could anybody advise what I should do. I can access Outlook Express with no problems and I have run every scan I can think of, AVG, Spyware, CC Cleaner, Anti Malware etc etc - all of which I have found on this site.
I am hoping I will not have to pay to have it repaired, being retired, I have already been quoted £50 which I suppose is not bad but it will mean I will have to move 100's of documents on to discs so I would like to avoid that if possible.
Any help would be much appreciated, thank you.

Many delayed thanks for your help but I am afraid it is still not working, when trying to install new IE8 from Microsoft, it states it is removing the existing version, restarts, then goes ahead with what seems to be an install, again with a restart but I still cannot open IE8 - it states on the window "Windows Intertnet Explorer" but it just does not appear and can stay like this all of the time. I am at a loss what to do next, I do have a disc that has not been used for Windows 7 Professional but not sure what I would need to do to install it, as maybe I need to remove certain programmes in order to install it? I just do not know what has happened.0

Soory, a tad confused, I now have Firefox (which I cannot figure out how to use!) but I would really like IE8 but am having trouble downloading a new version as the old one was corrupt. Thank you for replying though.0 -
Which version of windows are you using?0

Firefox is an alternative to IE, use is pretty similar.
How did the problem start, and what happens if you try to launch IE
Have you tried a system restore?!!

What happens when you try to run IE8?
I had issues with a firewall stopping IE8 from working on my pc.
The fix was to uninstall the firewall, then download IE8 and then to reinstall the firewall.
Go offline, turn all the various security things off and see if you can browse to a web page saved on your hard drive.
Using Firefox is a better solution though.Happy chappy0 -
