How do I tell the TV license folk I dont need one?

Options
Silly question, sure its been answered before but any help would be nice.

We've been in our flat for about a year. We don't have a TV and have never had one here. We also never watch TV at time of broadcast on-line so there is no need for a TV license.

However, the people who lived here before clearly had one as we used to get letters addressed to them. We passed these on to the landlady who I guess is still in touch with them as she takes all their mail that comes to the flat.

Now, the TV license folk may have caught on as they are addressing letters to the present occupier. Should I open the envelopes? From looking at the website there doesn't seem to be a simple way to tell them no thank you we still live in the stone age and don't have a TV set :-)

I think they just continue to send them anyway, In work we sell new properties and TV licence continue to send reminders about getting a licence even when we ring them to say there are no tv's in the property, they said the computer automatically sends them out.

I know a couple of people who've had this problem - one even got loads of letters when she bought a freeview box for someone as a present because they thought she must be using it for herself! I think you just have to keep writing to them and be prepared to let them in to prove you don't have any equipment.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

Ignore them, don't write to them - it'll only encourage them.

I get letters threatening me with court, big fine etc. all the time despite telling them I have no tv.

I save them up then send them back to tv licensing in Bristol.

Just tried to ring them up, no answer.

I am sort of tickled by the discount for the blind or severely sight impaired detailed in the letter. My goodness the government does know how to help those who need it the most, eh?

If they ignore you they will only assume its on purpose and you have something to hide. The simple thing to do is read the letters and ring them. I bought a tele for a relative and the shop passed my details on and later revieved a letter about not having a license etc etc, ignored it and got another one.
I simply rang up and stated i do not have a tv, i bought a tv for a relative and thats that. Told them they are welcome to send a representative to check. He politely said no worries, updated his details and never heard from them since.:)

It is an 0870. So you pay them for them to listen to you. I would not bother.
